Welcoming Milly & Tilly for their first holiday with us... I'm buttering them up with lots of nice greens and treatos ☺️
Welcoming this beautiful pair... Milly & Tilly 🐷🐷
I have no idea what's up with my camera but these two are out for a mooch 🐗🐗
Being a massive fan of pairs and groups of rabbits this was the most agonising decision I've had to make. After Rustys double PECABO surgery in April her bond with our Rufus broke down and we made the choice to seperate them until Rusty had recovered.
They were kept seperate via xpens and given time out seperately and while this was working temporarily it wasn't a long term thing... Looking at Rustys progress the last 4 months we decided that in the best interest of Rusty we would not be able to rebond her with Rufus any time soon or if ever.
It's so difficult to make the right call because we don't know how much progress Rusty will make or if this is as good as it gets or she may even deteriorate further from here...
Rusty is still on medication and is comfortable which is all we could wish for after everything she's gone through and she will continue to do so in our care. She's always been a nervous rabbit and Rufus a dominant rabbit so I know she is more than happy on her own upstairs while in a vulnerable state especially after Rufus went for her when she was so poorly! Rufus has shown no signs of wanting to befriend her again either and has continued to show aggressive behaviour towards her... I guess it's in his instincts as prey to not want to be near a sickly companion who will attract predators.
We don't know what the future holds for Rusty and Rufus but for now everyone is doing okay and happy in much larger spaces 🐰❤️🐰
Hammy has had a full clean out... We have changed all her toys around added a deep layer of substrate with tunnels running under it, topped with hay, dried forage and scatter fed for enrichment... 🐹
Obviously too good to share ay Delillah 😂🐰❤️
So as many of you know Rusty had surgery in March and again in April... She had a double PECABO and abscess removal... After 2. 5 months of her being very lopsided with a severe head tilt we had accepted it was as good as it was going to get... Then nothing short of a miracle happened... What seems like overnight she randomly stuck her head back the right way... She's seen Molly at Rutland House today who was absolutely over the moon and explained this nearly never happens after such a period of time with the condition she had...
Please keep sending healing vibes to our little fluffball... She's been an absolute trooper through everything 🙏
And once again thank you to everyone for all your kinds words, love and support through this very taxing time ❤️
March/April time this little love couldn't even stand up she just rolled... Her heads been on a wonk since and I didn't think we would see much more improvement... I don't know what's happened the last two weeks but she's proved me wrong massively... Vet check Friday 🙏
Rusty roo update... Look at her go... Its been an emotional few months to say the least! I didn't think I'd see you improve as much as you have my little love! We have started some gentle head stretches and neck massages and I think/hope to see some more improvements... Her ears are pretty much healed over and her furs started to grow back and she's gained in confidenced as after everything she's been through... well it knocked her for six and I didn't know if she would ever recover mentally from it let alone physically! 🥹🐰😍
Heres to continued improvement!
Salt and Pepper have been out for a mooch today while we cleaned them out 😆
All Bella's Burrows guests have had a good clean out (obviously we spot clean and have unlimited hay) and are happy eating their dinner 🐰🐷🐹
Hammy has learnt to use the wheel... Which of course squeaks 🎡😂🎡
Made hammy an underpass from her old cage tunnels!!! 😍😂😍
Had a lovely chat with Hammys owners and we agreed she had outgrown her cage from a baby hamster and we have managed to pick up this near brand new cage second hand from marketplace... Safe to say hammy is having an absolute blast with a deeper base to burrow in and more space to do hamster night time activities with lots of toys and enrichment!... She can't seem to figure out her new wheel though and keeps trying to climb over the top of it... I love this part of running Bella Burrows... Small animals are the uk's, no1 most neglected animal and unfortunately places like pets at home sell a lie that small animals are easy pets that don't need much care or space... This could not be further from the truth. We all start somewhere and it's truly a privaledge owning an exotic pet and learning and growing with them... My first rabbit lived in a Guniea pig cage and we learnt the hard way this wasn't a life for her and changed her habitat and care to better suit her needs!!! Absolutely love being part of the small animal community 😍
Blueberries for everyone!
