Bailey is the newest addition to the Vetcare family at Bolton surgery, and this little chap is travelling in style!
Bailey has caused quite a stir whilst out and about doing some shopping with his Dad, and again today on his first visit to see our fabulous vet, Helen Watson, for his health check and vaccinations.
Baileys Dad has taken up our offer of 4 weeks free insurance which means that should, heaven forbid, anything untoward happen to baby Bailey during this time, he will be covered for Veterinary fees. Hopefully this cover will be continued and give Baileys owners peace of mind for the future.
Lovely to see this cute pair today. 🤗
Welcome Bailey to Vetcare Bolton! ###

Vetcare at Bolton are showing off our nurse, Sarah, new addition in the form of a chocolate box baby called Millie.
Sarah very sadly lost her beautiful old lady, Jazz, recently and the family were heartbroken, so little Millie has brought some joy back into their lives during a distressing time.
Millie will never replace Jazz....that's impossible, but she will provide a distraction so that the family can move on and start to be happy again.
Meanwhile Miss Millie is enjoying her new life...its just purrfect......unlike the Christmas tree at home which is bereft of decorations!😻🌲
Welcome Millie to the Vetcare Family at Bolton! Xx

Can I have some more please?

Bayley loves the gravy bones on reception and is very enthusiastic to attend the surgery at any given time.......we wonder why?

Bayley is now almost 15 years old, and he doesn't miss a trick...or the gravy bones!

Bayley’s mobility has been greatly improved by having monthly injections of librela, which is used to alleviate pain associated with osteoarthritis.

We look forward to seeing this beautiful boy next month and we will put another order in for more gravy bones!

Lots of love to Bayley and his mum Michelle, from everyone here at Vetcare Bolton ###

Angel is a cherished part of a family, and her absence has been especially hard on two daughters.

The weeks surrounding Halloween can present many potential hazards to pets, including the consumption of Halloween chocolates and sweets. The primary toxins in chocolate are theobromine and caffeine, although the concentration of theobromine is 3-10 times greater than that of caffeine. While many are aware of the danger chocolate poses to dogs, the same danger to cats also applies. Other sweet treats, especially those containing xylitol, also pose a significant risk to dogs this season. The sugar alternative xylitol can be found in ‘sugar-free’ sweets, gum, chocolate, some peanut butters, and many more food items. Xylitol is well tolerated in cats and is not associated with the toxic effects seen in dogs. Please be careful over the next couple of weeks and beyond, while Halloween treats are still hanging around the home. Make sure all treats are out of the reach of pets. Should you dog or cat ingest any treats then please contact the surgery immediately informing of the type and quantity eaten including, if possible, manufacturer details so a tailored treatment plan can be given to patients.

With 7 weeks to the deadline, a third of cat owners in England are unaware their pet will be required by law to be microchipped! Contact us today to make an appointment!

Microchipping Your Pet
Did you know that you can be fined up to £500 if your dog is not microchipped or registered with accurate details.
Accurately microchipped dogs are 54% more likely to be reunited with their owners if they go missing.
All horses, ponies and donkeys in England, Wales and Scotland must be microchipped by law too.
It is thought that only 20% of rabbits in the UK are microchipped. Microchipping highly increases your chances of being reunited if they ever escape of get stolen.
In June this year it will become law in England that all cats are microchipped too - don't delay, request an appointment today by following the below link below:

Osteoarthritis pain can be a serious health problem for your cat. And cats hide almost everything, especially pain. You know your cat’s playful ways and what they love better than anyone. Changes in these behaviours could be signs of osteoarthritis pain. Just as in humans, chronic pain negatively impacts your cat’s quality of life, not just physically, but also emotionally. Osteoarthritis pain can affect cats of any age, and it has been seen in more than 60% of cats that are 6 years or older. If left untreated, the pain can become worse over time.
As your vet, we rely on you to report changes in your cat’s behaviour for more accurate diagnoses. If it is found that your cat is showing signs of OA-related pain, helping your cat begins by booking an appointment with the vet. The good news is that by identifying your cat’s condition, you and your vet can develop an appropriate treatment plan for your cat.

Thinking of adopting an Easter Bunny?
While they can make wonderful pets, it’s important to remember that rabbits are exotic animals that require a lot of care. Domestic rabbits can live up to 12 years of age. Rabbits are very sensitive to noise and need to be handled with care. Children should not be in charge of taking care of them. Additionally, rabbits require a lot more care than you may expect… They need a big space (very bare minimum of 3x3x1m), or could be kept free inside your home. Bunnies should be toilet-trained - just like cats and dogs. You need to clean their hutch every day, including disinfecting their water and food bottles with rabbit-safe products. They require frequent nail trims and dental check-ups from your vet. Rabbits need to be let out of their cage daily to play and exercise. Bunnies love playing with their toys and digging around in their enclosure. Ensure you provide adequate entertainment. They need their hair brushed daily to avoid mats. They need to eat plenty of fresh veg and hay, in addition to their feed. “All-in-one” solutions are not conducive to a healthy bun. Bunnies are companion animals, so ideally should be kept as a pair. Before adopting a bunny, please ensure that you are ready to commit to providing the care that they need. If you are thinking of adopting a bunny, please feel free to contact us and attend our free nurse led Rabbit Club for information and advice.
We hope you and your family have a great Easter!
