Why clip at this time of year?? ... Clipping can be done at all times of the year .. in winter to help keep horses from getting a chill from sweaty coats , for cosmetic reasons, to help horses with Cushing's that have excess coat, and now to help keep weight of laminitic/Ems prone horses and ponies.
Laminitis is rife this year .. if you are noticing the signs, lethargic, footy, pulses, wanting to lie down more often than normal, cresty hard necks, bulges above the eyes, weight shifting,no ability to back up etc etc you must seek medical help IMMEDIATELY.
Have your farrier check them every 6-8 weeks! Even if you think they do not need doing they can assess
Your horse does not need to be "fat" to have lami , it's not just found in "Shetlands, cobs and good doers" ..ANY horse can get it
Work them more, feed them less, soak your hay and limit the time out on the grass where you can
Prevention is always better than a cure π§‘
And no this way of clipping is not found in a BHS manual π

Sundays lessons
Fab morning teaching π.. one extreme to another... 1st up a Jump lesson with a Andalusian and a rider wanting a confidence boost πͺ absolutely nailed it ..2nd up a ex racer not long since retired now embarking on a new career we worked on being black and white and the majority of the lesson in walk to improve the quality and straightness π... Both riders took lots away to work on π
Superstar of the week π€
Did you know I offer freelance teaching on yard and off yard? .. I don't promote myself enough in this area .. I teach all ages and abilities .. all disciplines .. fully Qualified if that floats your boat but i have more to offer than a certificate.. I have vast experience with all types of horses and riders for over 20 years... actively compete and train for my own personal gain and enjoyment weekly with a great record..
This little girl is my superstar of the week .. the cheekiest pony that does not like to make it easy for the rider .. she absolutely smashed it today I'm so proud π§‘
Let me know if this is something you are looking for π
Blue Bootcamp
Did you know we do Bootcamps πͺ
This is Blue
Blue is a super chap who is stabled on yard
His owner has asked if I can work him for 2 week's to get him back on track
We will first do a good few days lunging to encourage him to stretch out seek a contact and work over his back more
As you can see from the video the side reins are far from tight and are positioned low to encourage the stretch which he naturally finds easy and will happily perform ..however he also likes to suck back and in behind the vertical so this we will work on over the next couple of weeks
It's important that they work from back to front not front to back βΊοΈ
I'm a huge believer in that if a horse can not work well from the ground it can not work well with a rider on board
Will post an update over the next few days!
Drop me a message if you are interested in a bootcamp for you and your horse π§‘

Vinny rehab day 1
A few of you may remember Vinny from a few months back .. he has since gone through a major kissing spine operation as you can see from his coat being clipped off and stem cell treatment in his hocks...he has now been given the go ahead from the vets to start some Rehab work who will then re assess in 4 weeks time. The key to his success will be to work long and low building himself up gradually avoiding small circles where possible..I started work with him today completely from the beginning as he has been quite explosive during his boxrest stint .. once we had established the ground rules and that he doesn't have to go everywhere super fast he soon relaxed into the work where we simply just walked and walked and walked encouraging him to stretch down and step over poles finishing with a little trot both ways .. did you know it is harder for a horse to walk over poles than what it is to trot and canter??...we worked each way the same and tomorrow now we now the rules on the lunge π we will introduce a training aid to encourage the use of his core more.... slowly slowly catch the monkey π .... It will be a long road but hopefully worth it π§‘..
