Lee-Anne Dawson has just asked me about our proposed mating of Bru Bear and Fergie this year and if it is still going ahead so I thought I would just clarify a couple of things with everyone and easiest to do it on the groups.
We are still going to go ahead with this mating as several of you have now been waiting a long time (years in fact!) and we are confident that we have homes for puppies. HOWEVER, please, please have a really hard think about your situation this year and if you are going to be able to take a pup. We have found ourself in the position before where the pups have arrived and the waiting list has dissipated. Understand that if you place your name on the list we expect it to still be there once the pups are here. We do not take the issue of creating life lightly, we do not breed without serious consideration and we do not want to find we have a beautiful litter that needs to be advertised in the paper and struggle to find homes - we want to KNOW we have homes before Bru and Fergie even go for their dirty weekend together please.
So with this in mind, we are releasing you from all previous obligation and reopening the waiting list from scratch (preference given to those who have already been on it). Now is the time to back out if you want to and we will totally respect that sensible decision if you have to.

We are doing a major downsize and want to cut our numbers of horses and dogs in half in the next 12 months to allow us more time to progress our levels horses and youngsters. At the moment nearly all our time is taken up caring for the huge numbers we have and we are not getting anywhere with actually having some fun with them! We are looking to sell some of the horses we have here that we hire out for Parelli days, and loan some of the dogs to working kennels. If you think you may be interested please get in touch. We have all ages and types and heights, prices starting at £200 ono. They will be available at different times throughout the year, and we are happy to come to arrangements on payment, perhaps even do LWVTB or Permanent Loan if the home is right.

Had a great morning with Lucy Laing showing her how the Parelli Program works, going over the support materials and where to find them. Lucy already thinks along the lines of the program with her horses so I am sure she will not only love it, but pick it up and make progress easily. Getting people like Lucy started is fab as the more people progressing to the foundations of excellence stage the sooner we can get high level courses organised at Highland Wildrides!
It's all go now this afternoon with the removal of felled trees, scraping yards, digging new drainage into the kennel barn, and if I can twist a few arms we should even get the start of hard standing at some gates, and the muck heap tidied - every horsey girls winter dream is mudless gates!!!
We have also had a great offer of help and babysitting so that we can get the dogs back to work next week - that will be so good to get under way I am too excited to sleep at night!

22/11/2012

We have quite a few people getting in touch about starting Parelli. Would you guys like to do a wee coffee morning here and go over the support materials for the home study program and how it works? Good to do it now and make best use of benefits and discounts in time for Christmas shopping ;)

I am putting together a list of FAQ's about Mickey Marley and the stud. I would love some help from the group members so please post below what your burning questions are - anything goes! The only silly question is the one you never ask so whether it's to do with colour genetics, facilities, breeding behaviour, how to detect your mares season, or even what is a teaser used for - ask away!!

Please can everyone be EXTRA EXTRA vigilant. We are having problems with what we believe to be potential horse thieves with lots of local knowledge. We have had a couple of visits we know of, suspicious phonecalls trying to ascertain the whereabouts of MM and also we know we have been watched to see when we leave the premises. We have installed CCTV and alarms and are being as careful as possible but if you see anyone with horse transport (especially around Balblair wood which is where they may most obviously walk horses out of here through to the car park outside the village for loading) that you do not recognise, parked up, or behaving dodgy REPORT IT STRAIGHT AWAY. Don't worry, the Police will not think you are crazy, they are aware of the situation and are doing extra patrols in the area. Please try and get make, colour, model and number plate on towing vehicle AND trailer (as they may not match) or lorry.
THANK YOU!!!###

Things are really moving along with finding new homes for horses. Amy leaves on loan tomorrow, shortly followed by Bailey and Marley who we are delighted to be sending all the way to Ayrshire for a Parelli Pony Share Scheme ( very exciting project we are delighted to support), Sugar has a loan home in the offing, Swish and Bump are swapping places with Shadow and going on loan to Ella when he returns, and there is still a question mark over Pollei - really need to find her a 100% pure Eriskay stallion to go to or grazing for her and one to run on.......

For those that use sweeteners and give dogs a drink of tea, the new sugar substitute Xylitol is poisonous to dogs - one teaspoon will kill a GSD, this advice has come from UK vets. It is also in some processed foods and sweets so please be aware, it acts like giving a dog insulin and there is no antidote. So if you have 2 teaspoons in your tea/coffee and the dog drinks it, you will have a serious problem on your hand
