Big scary man that the dogs don't like π
Just Willow and Bailey on the 2nd walk today, and back to one of the old walks now that the logging lorries are away. Was nice to have a bit of a break, and think they enjoyed the extra attention. Having 4 myself you forget how much easier it is with 2 π
Who's having more fun here? David McGuire Jnr or the dogs π? I'll figure out later how to get the music over so he stops getting on at me
Same again today with a different group. Can see the difference, but have these dogs more days. All fetch orientated, and think the wee trick David McGuire Jnr showed me has helped as well. Especially with willow, the greedy lab. No volume because I cringed hearing the last one π
Wee test today to see who's going to listen π. Threw a few treats, then stop and recall. Search out a few treats to get maybe 1 or come and get multiple. Can see who failed π€£
Got carried away on today's walk, hitting about the 4hr mark i was enjoying it that much. Just an example of the difference in macs memory retrieve to wee evies. Thrown into the side, off the path, and longer distance. Might end up boring people with videos, but I'm really enjoying playing and working with the dogs just now π. Love watching them develop as time goes on.
Been bad for taking photos this week, so just an example of what was my hardest walk until David gave me a few tips. Keeping more focused on me, constantly checking in. Just giving them a bit of praise for checking in throughout the video. Big turnaround in a short space of time. Just cringe when I hear myself on video so take the volume off π
David McGuire Jnr joining us today with his own 3, cassie, bow and hunter. Love watching the 3 of them work, even though bow stayed by me cos I was secretly sneaking her chicken π. More tips on how to build focus, patience and some other things. Feel like an apprentice again at times with the odd wee row I get. If I could give any one a tip that I wish I knew first getting my dogs is communicate as much as possible, play and interact with your dog throughout walk and you'll have a much better bond and easier time. And if you're struggling with anything, don't hesitate to message David. The longer you wait the more work you'll have, and I can't fault him at all with how much he's helped me
Wee evie starting to join in on the fetching and short memory retrieves, keeping it simple for her to start. She was always one for liking a wonder in the trees looking for birds, so I kept her on the long line for a bit, teaching her I don't want her doing that. Helped with keeping her more interested in staying amongst the group. Think she needed a wee job to do, and taking the birds away from her she's looking for another outlet and joining in on the fun. Such a clever wee dog, but her innocent face hides a cheeky side with food is all ill say π. Helps a lot with the way David McGuire Jnr explains things to you in depth, and you start to change your way of thinking and noticing different needs amongst the dogs.
Bit of fetching today, making it fun for the dogs most of the walk before finishing up for holidays. Few days up the Highlands with my own, getting peace from Lindsay and Bobby. Or more like them getting peace from me π.
Don't know if it was the dogs or me having more fun. That's why I muted the volume π. So glad my own are finally getting more into fetching. Will help with the type of training David McGuire Jnr does. Won't be as chaotic as this eventually.
Bailey and Ted loving a swim through the week. Owners probably not so happy, but at least the dogs are π
Phone died today with only a few pictures, so just a wee video from a training walk on Sunday. Testing how far I could get before someone gave in, but it was me who caved, and called them back cos I could hardly see them π.
Just another video for a change, showing other dogs doing good. Mac who's 5 days picks stuff up really well. Done a second toot to see if Ruby would sit, but she seems oblivious to what's going on π€£. He does look at me with a sad face anytime I walk away, like I'm going to leave him there. Had a row from David for last video, telling me what to do, but had to explain I was just testing them to see if they can figure it out for themselves, and make a videoπ
Trying to work on sit to stay today, but wasn't going quite to plan π. Tried using my own 2 to show them you get a piece of chicken if you stay seated. Some from other walks have got really good, but this bunch are too greedy π€£
Mac and kenco picking up the stop whistle now. Mac took off after 4 deer yesterday on the walk, and managed to call him off them. Was chuffed with him doing that. Especially with this breed which isnt easy. I know first hand how much a secondary option to just recall is, with having 2 highly prey driven dogs myself. Improved greatly following David McGuire Jr training tips, when it felt impossible at one point.
Not the usual dog post, but some clients were interested in seeing the 2 otters that followed me fishing on Saturday. Even though they put the fish off, I still liked to stop and watch the wildlife on the river.
