Knox is now helping others to shine 🖤🖤 We have been introducing him to wee Marmalade - our white ginger and white baby girl who was found straying on a farm. Marmalade isn’t aggressive but she is very timid and flighty. But today, seeing Knox get some strokes gave her the confidence to enjoy a wee head stroke too. Not sure she’d admit it but I think it wasn’t as bad as she’d feared. Knox says Hi. Literally! That wave! 😍😍 He’s making amazing progress and is going to make a brilliant companion for some lucky person(s). He’s still a little shy but when he knows you he loves strokes and purrs like a train. Every chance he is a lap cat in waiting. He may find a busy house with children and lots of comings and goings a bit much and we don’t know how he’d get on with other animals. But a calm adult home with a patient owner and a garden for him to explore once settled will see this handsome man flourish. This may not seem like much, but our boy Knox took a big step forward today. Not only did he purr (volume up….it’s quiet but it’s there) but he also moved! Stretching out, nonetheless! We shared a video of this boy about two months ago, when he was just starting to become comfy with the “green finger”. He arrived some time prior to this as a very scared and unneutered straying Tom cat. Day by day it doesn’t always feel like much progress is being made. But time and patience can work magic, and for Knox, today will be chalked up as a big win. Well done lovely boy. We wanted to introduce you to one of our longest-stay in-pen guests, Ed. Gorgeous ginger boy Ed is 7 years-old and arrived with us in January 2022. He was surrendered by his previous owners because they didn’t think he was happy living with them, and they were probably correct. When his Mum’s boyfriend moved in, Ed didn’t like it very much. To manage this, they confined Ed to one single room of the flat which we suspect made him anxious. The boyfriend was tasked with feeding Ed each day, which we fear only exacerbated these anxieties. When he came to us Ed hid himself away and became very defensive of his bed area. 8-months down the line and Ed has made good progress. He is a much calmer boy and, whilst he doesn’t really like being surrounded by other cats, he is happy enough with his pen space and the enclosed pen-back area to which he has access. What he really needs though is a home of his own. Ed is not a “bad” cat, but he is a cat who wants things his way. He enjoys strokes on his own terms and when he is in the mood can be incredibly affectionate. He will raise a paw and swipe if you overstep his boundaries and he likes a grumble from time to time, but there isn’t any significant malice in his actions. He is happiest when he sees us first thing in the morning and doesn’t like it when he needs to go back into his pen after feeding time! He certainly needs to be the only pet in an adult-only home with an owner who understands that not all cats want attention all the time, but we suspect that in the right environment, where Ed can be left to come and go as his pleases and interact if and when he wants to, he will thrive. He’s been holding on for dear life until a suitable replacement could be found. A harder job than one might think …. whilst these flowers are available on Amazon they are not as “long” as our trusted colleague and so wouldn’t be fit for purpose. However, the wait is nowover. Some cats have no shame. Every day, the cat food which isn’t eaten overnight gets collected and put out for the foxes who live in the fields surrounding our shelter - well fed foxes mean they don’t trouble our cats. Every day, we also feed all our cats. At least twice! Seems wee Sheila here wasn’t satisfied with her own breakfast. That tray of leftovers is obviously far more inviting!! 🙈🤣🙈🤣🙈

Happy Friday all! And a fine day to introduce you to handsome Knox. This chap had been straying for some time and has taken some time to start relaxing in our care. The green finger and Dreamies have once more been called into play, and as you can see, Knox is starting to get used to the feeling of “contact” and is very happy to take a treat or two 🤣🤣 He is still extremely guarded and greets us with a rather menacing growl, but he is definitely making progress. We introduced you to lovely Midas recently, one of three ragdolls who had been kept as breeding cats before coming to us due to their owners illness. Midas now happily has his home and so we wanted to introduce you to one of his female companions. This is 4-year-old Nyree. Nyree has found it very hard adjusting to being with us at our shelter. She became hugely protective of her younger friend Millie and so we had to separate them for their own safety. And for ours! Whilst she is still extremely unpredictable and reactive, we are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel and in her calmer moments we can see there is a really sweet and playful cat hiding under her fear. The green finger has started to work it’s magic once again. This makes us smile. This is 5-year-old Midas who came to us at the end of June because his owner was unwell and could no longer care for him. He arrived with two female ragdolls, the trio having been used for breeding. All three have found adjusting to shelter life a challenge, but for Midas that challenge hasn’t just been an emotional one. When he arrived he wasn’t able to close his mouth properly. Our vet advised his teeth had grown incorrectly - possibly a birth defect - and that he was likely to be in pain. Surgery would be needed to remove the problem teeth. That was just over a month ago and Midas has had his treatment staggered. He had his final surgery a couple of weeks ago and can now close his mouth properly and seems a much happier chap! He is much more settled with us too and his claw-led outbursts are now pretty much a thing of the past. What makes us smile is that today for first time we witnessed Midas taking part in a bit of “self-playtime”. That wee toy mouse took quite a beating once he got going 🤣🤣 So lovely to see he is finally learning how to “cat”. Well done Midas…. He’s lovely but he’s a menace!! There I was trying to give wee Skye a brush, when Baby George (who isn’t really a baby any more, but the name has stuck) decided he wanted all the attention 🤣🤣 We did at least manage to finish our brushing :-) Skye is one of the 70+ cats we rescued from a single address a couple of years ago. She has fairly significant health issues and doesn’t like too much “person” time, which means she will spend the rest of her days as queen of the giant open pen scratch post. Baby George also came from a multi cat household and is very very friendly. Sadly he has significant toileting issues (both location wise and quality wise) and so like Skye he calls our grounds and open pen home. He is such fun and in Baby George world, it’s all about Baby George. We officially have new BFFs. Toffee and Domino have been enjoying their play dates during the day but are still sleeping in their own “rooms” overnight. This was the reunion this morning. Sound on for the greetings 🥰🥰🥰🥰 These boys didn’t arrive together, and they aren’t techinally a “bonded pair” so could each find a home of their own. But wouldn’t it be lovely if their bond could continue to grow In a together-forever home 🙂 Do contact our shelter if you’d like to know more about these lads.
