Training can be stressful your meeting new people new dogs and listening to advice from someone you don’t know.
Myself and Theresa know exactly how it feels we’ve been clients in a training class not knowing what we’re doing(a long time ago 😂longer for theresa lol)and we’re always learning new techniques everyday through courses, seminars, webinars, books etc.
We always try our best using every tool that we have to make sure you understand when you’d use certain exercises, their benefits and then how to do them with your dog. Some exercises like this one are difficult to explain without showing with a dog that’s comfortable with us or me crawling about the floor. The video here is Theresa explaining and demonstrating a change.

Keep yourself and dogs safe tomorrow if weather comes to pass. Back gardens are havens for debri that can cause injury to dogs and humans alike. If letting dogs out for a p*e make sure no dangerous debris or trampolines are rolling about your garden

Christmas food

Although Christmas food may be delicious for us and some of it even your dog please be mindful that everything that is good for us is not for your dogs.
Do we me and theresa give our dogs bits of our Christmas dinner…. Yes but we have to be careful which trimmings they get.
Small cooked bones from the turkey or your Christmas meat can be very small, these are not easily digested by dogs and can cause obstruction and perforation in your dogs digestive system.
Lots of ready made products that we purchase from the supermarket can and will contain ingredients that are not good for your dog. Stuffing normally contains onion and nuts that are not good for your dogs digestive system and can actually be toxic to your dog.
Please avoid and keep items like Christmas cake, mince pies and Christmas pudding out of reach these items contain large quantities of raisins which are derived from grapes which are toxic to your furry friends.
Last but not least alcohol as Christmas comes lots of us like a wee drink over the festive season alcohol by no means is acceptable for dogs so whether your feeding your Christmas cake brandy or pouring yourself one too many gnt’s please bear this in mind.
Turkey and veg. If you want to give your dog there own wee Christmas dinner stick to meat and veg even pick up a wee turkey breast or even chicken breast cook it up with some veg dogs love sprouts I hate them, carrots, spinach, kale steer clear of leeks, onions etc

Christmas trees

May sound stupid but do not leave a dog unattended with a Christmas tree. Real trees smell so dog is likely to sniff at the tree I have seen some really nasty injuries to dogs eyes from real and artificial trees and also pine needles and sharp branches not good for belly or inside of the mouth.
Then we have the added bonus of hanging wires for lights electrics don’t go well with dogs teeth.
Decorations on the tree some decorations spin, reflect light, shimmer onto other surfaces I have seen dogs chase these reflections and run into walls and the tree itself. A lot of decorations aren’t great for your dogs digestion including glass ornaments or even plastic still not great, decorations that break if they fall like glass baubles can be easily stood on and cause injury.
Chocolate hanging decor and edible decor Christmas cookies probably gonna be ok but candy canes and chocolate are gonna give dog upset belly and probably a trip to the vet.
Although it’s not gonna suit the aesthetics of the room puppy pens or guards around tree are a good idea or leave dog in another room or crate when unattended. Use of a positive interrupter like ready ready from class will help you when you are there if taught it ❤️

Christmas for a dog

When we think of Christmas we think happy excited children unwrapping gifts, the big festive meal, lots of family visiting and in general it is one of my favourite times of the year and yes it is one of my trees in the photo below.
What does Christmas mean to your dog?
🐶Why the hell is there suddenly a tree in the house?
🐶There’s suddenly lots of interesting packages arriving and under that tree?
🐶why has the tree got wires, chocolates and other weird thing hanging on it can I have one?
🐶omg mum/dads cooking something tasty
🐶who are all these people visiting my house, we don’t normally have this many visitors
And I could list hundreds of things your pup or dog is not going to understand about Christmas but you can help and support them. As the weeks go in I will post addressing a common Christmas issue for dogs so they can have just as much fun as you I will start us off by posting the first right now in the next post
