Our Boston Spa kennels are filling up with wildlife today!
We have Sammie the hedgehog, Derek the pigeon, Swifty McSwifterson the swift and our new patient Henry hedgepig who is awaiting his leg xrays ๐ฆ๐ฆ
Most of our wildlife patients at the moment are suffering from dehydration so please remember to help them out by leaving bowls of fresh water available in your gardens for them to help themselves ๐พ
Did you know that lungworm (Angiostrongylus
vasorum) is transmitted by slugs and snails? ๐
Your dog can become infected by swallowing one of these critters, or even by accidently ingesting the slime that they leave behind. This can happen more easily than you thinkโฆoften when your dog is just โbeing a dogโ - rummaging
in the undergrowth, eating grass, playing with toys left outdoors or drinking from outdoor water bowls or puddles! They best way to protect them is with monthly preventatives- speak to us to find out more.

Although the nights are drawing out and Spring is just around the corner I am sure many of us are still out walking our dogs in the fading daylight or early in the morning!
When walking your dog in the dark, make sure that both you and your dog are visible to others. For owners, this means avoiding dark clothing and wearing reflective safety gear such as a vest, strap or wristband. There are several options for keeping your dog visible in the dark, such as a reflective dog jacket, collar, lead, harness or even an LED light-up safety necklace. Dogs with darker fur are more difficult to see in the dark. However, even if you have a lighter coloured dog, you should make sure your dog can be seen in the dark.
