A huge step forward in racehorse aftercare ❤️🐎

British racecourses unite to support former racehorses 🐴

In a historic move, all 59 British racecourses have agreed to significantly increase their contributions to aftercare for former racehorses through RoR. From January 2025, each racecourse will contribute £270 per fixture – a 170% increase!

This funding boost will enable RoR to continue its essential work in supporting former racehorses through their transition into new careers, ensuring their ongoing wellbeing after retirement from racing. A huge step forward for Thoroughbred aftercare and the racing community’s shared responsibility. 🙌

How often do you say that? I know I say it every year!

I also know I can only maintain momentum for about 3 weeks and then it wanes...

Groundbreaking neck surgery for spinal nerve compression. Incredible that the rehab time is just 6 weeks! It truly is amazing what we can do nowadays x

An equine hospital in Hampshire has become the first veterinary practice in the UK to perform ground-breaking neck surgery.

Led by Dr Rachel Tucker, a European specialist in equine surgery, Liphook Equine Hospital near Petersfield has successfully performed the foraminotomy procedure, which addresses spinal nerve compression, on six horses.

The keyhole surgery relieves pressure on nerves that are being pinched by bony enlargements in the lower neck by removing excess bone and soft tissue.

Ted has joined the Flying Hooves Family for his 💖𝒩𝑒𝓌 𝒴𝑒𝒶𝓇, 𝒩𝑒𝓌 𝒮𝓉𝒶𝓇𝓉 🐎

Let’s welcome Ted, isn’t he just lovely? 🥰 love his little face 😍

Ted has had his first full treatment with issues ranging from a pinched temporalis to a tight gluteal - 😣 ouch!

He’s so much happier! Imagine having a constant headache and sciatica? Poor Ted 🫶

He’s wanting a bit and bridle fitting too, but, while I recognise this can also help release tension, I am holding off on this for the moment until after treatment number 2🐴

Ted has a plan! 🙌

Next treatment will be in his new home to make sure we’re not dealing with travel and emotional stressors, then his bit and bridle 🥰🐴

I 💯 want to give Ted the best service I can and this path works for him 💖

Look at this gorgeous stallion, Bryn! ❤️

Bryn is so well behaved and really enjoys his treatments 🥰

💖 Yesterday was just magical with him 💖

We really connected and tuned into each other’s energy. After this he just stood and completely relaxed all tension. We got some amazing releases including a deep “twang” in the medial gluteals and the release of his stifle that enabled him to really stride out after his treatment.

I’m sure you’ll agree, he is just stunning! 😍

🥰🐴 This lovely chap was suffering with a tight serratus ventralis cervicis!

A what??? That muscle in the middle of the lower neck just in front of the shoulder blade where it dips in a bit 😀

My Epiony heat pad did a wonderful job of warming the muscle up ready for some deep compression work during this cold snap we’ve been having 😍💖🐎

What’s this muscle do? 🤔 Moves the scapula, extends and provides lateral flexion to the neck as well as forming part of the thoracic sling. Busy muscle!!

Imagine trying to turn out of a junction in your car but you can’t turn your neck!! 😣 Frustrating and very sore! Poor lad ❤️ All ok now though. Full release achieved!
