🌱GRASS SEED SEASON🌱
Over the last few weeks we have seen a number of patients with grass seeds lodged in their ears and paws. Last week this poor boy managed to get one in his eye!
Jet was brought to our Sutterton Hospital as he was holding his eye closed. He was obviously in discomfort and wouldn't let our vet have a proper look, which we can understand! We admitted him to give him a sedation so we could examine his eye.
We found a grass seed lodged under his third eyelid! We carefully removed the culprit ensuring we didn't leave any of it behind. Photo of the full grass seed in the comments.
These pesky grass seeds get everywhere! Ensure you check your pets when they return from outside, and if you notice anything unusual please contact your vet. Some of the signs you may notice are:
🌱 shaking the head a lot
🌱 scratching or rubbing ears
🌱 holding their eye closed
🌱 rubbing of the eye
🌱 sneezing
🌱 nose bleeds
🌱 licking their paw continuously
🌱 swelling of the paw
Grass seeds really can get anywhere, the most common areas to find a grass seed are:
🌱 Ears
🌱 Eyes
🌱 Nose
🌱 Paws
But it is important to remember they can enter the body anywhere so it is best to check the whole body.
Jet felt much better after his sedation, we can imagine the relief he must have felt! ❤
