I know people are going to be seeing loads of these posts with the heat at the moment but some people clearly aren’t getting the message! I’ve seen 5 dogs out this lunchtime and 2 with balls ! 🎾 Please keep your dogs in. I know some people don’t have gardens and they need to take them out for wee wees but walking them in this heat is ridiculous! They can survive without a walk but they may not survive with one.

👀 Let's Address The Elephant In The Room 👀

The topic of conversation, both in-store and on our socials, is the new big brand supermarket pet shop chain coming to Stamford. Yes we are aware, and have been since we were in the planning stages of Wildwood. Although we nearly gave in and dropped our dream, we decided to open and compete regardless.

At the end of the day there are those who would prefer the products offered by such a shop but with the local area being so pet-focused there are many who will see the differences in products and services that we, and other local independents, can offer that supermarket pet shops just can't.

We are so lucky to be in an area where all pet shops within 20 mins are amazing: stocked full of quality brands and run by knowledgeable people who are passionate about what they do! We have the great Pets Korner on the high street, Petorama Petshop Bourne and PET STOP Market Deeping just to name a few. We would like to hope we add to this mix, giving you more options for your beloved furry (scaly or feathered) family and providing the local area of Stamford and surroundings with a great choice of independent pet shops. There are so many products out there for our beloved pets these days that each shop will have something different. The supermarket pet shop chains are very different from us indies - and that's ok.

This is us. Wildwood Pets is the 3rd baby to Thomas and Laura (babies 1 and 2 being in the photo below.... well actually they are babies 306 and 307 if you count all the pets we've had..... anyway, tangent). It goes no further than us. Our parents, siblings and cousins have all pitched in with painting the shop, building various parts of it, putting up racking, stocking etc. Thomas deals with all the behind-the-scenes paperwork after a busy day serving customers in the shop alongside our stellar team of staff - Iona, Charlotte, Francesca and Amy. Our evenings are spent reading scientific papers researching the best harnesses, the most nutritious foods and the most natural shampoo. This is us. Full transparency.

As the saying goes, if you shop at a big chain you are buying the CEO his 4th Bentley but shopping independent buys a hardworking family their daughter's next pair of ballet shoes. Literally true in our case! Shout out to Miss Hayley at Dream Dance - Deeping , our Hazel loves you 🩰
