Don’t forget to make arrangements for your pets well in advance! 🐶🐱

Pets can get stressed when you're away, which is why you should never leave your pets on their own without a responsible person to care for them 🧑

💭 You should know that:

👉 When someone else is looking after your pet, they also have a legal responsibility to ensure your pet’s welfare

👉 It’s a criminal offence to leave any animal without making proper arrangements for its welfare

Basic training helps us communicate with our dogs for a better relationship.

Teaching lifeskills, like coping with vet checks or being confident on walks, is just as important. This is where a trainer or behaviourist comes in useful.

If seeking a dog trainer/behaviourist be sure to check their qualifications, experience and that they use reward based, fear free training methods.

Punishment and fear based training can be detrimental to your puppies development.

Canine Coaching has been quiet these last few months as I’ve been busy working with rescue doggos 🐶 and moving house 🏡

The job of a rescue worker is never done but I am now settled in my new home and ready to welcome new clients 🤩

I am available for one to one coaching sessions and my aim is to offer you the tools to train your dog which builds a better dog-owner bond and improves problem behaviour 😋

How cute is little Milo? 😍

I visit Milo and his loving family on a weekly basis and together we cover a range of topics to ensure Milo grows into a well rounded adult dog 🐶

The sessions are designed to lay the foundations for a loving, lasting relationship between you and your puppy 🥰

Topics include;

•Confidence building
•Coping well with surprises
•Enjoying touch and examinations
•Behaving in a calm and polite manner
•Making good choices
•Being able to listen and respond to caregivers

Our sessions are always fun and rewarding for everyone involved (myself included) 🤩

Did you know that if our eye sight was as good as our dogs sense of smell, we would be able to see clearly for 3 miles? It’s almost incomprehensible 🤓

Smell is incredibly important to our dogs (more so than their sight) and allows them to interpret the world around them 👃

Do you let your dog stop and sniff when you’re out walking together? 🐕

Just as we like to check our newsfeeds they like to stop and smell the pee-mail 📰

I like to tell my dogs “go sniff” when it’s safe for them to do so and say “let’s go” when I’m ready to walk on🚶‍♀️

This provides clear communication and can aid loose lead walking 🐾

Did everyone enjoy the bank holiday weekend? It was nice to see the sun shining ☀️

You may have wondered (or not 😅) why Canine Coaching has been so quiet over the last couple of weeks!

My job as a dog behaviourist as well as helping clients on a one to one basis keeps me very busy, leaving little time for Facebook updates 🤪

Rest assured however, I’m still here for all of your dog training needs 😄

My clients and I have been working on a variety of training exercises such as puppy ping pong, the bucket game and walkie-talkies 🐶

Are you teaching your dog anything new at the moment? 🐾

Did you know puppies have a critical socialisation period? 🤓

Between the age of 3-17 weeks the things that we expose them to and the experiences that they have help form the blueprint for how they will behave when they’re older 🐩

During this time we need to gradually introduce them, in a positive way, to anything that they may encounter later on in life so that they can grow into well rounded adult dogs 🐾

This could be a trip to the groomers, playing with well socialised adult dogs or meeting new people 🧒

When our rescue chihuahua was just a little pup, we used his socialisation as the perfect excuse to meet friends and go for a cream tea 😉

However, there is a misconception that we must expose our puppies to everything we possibly can, as quickly as we can. When really, we need to take our time and ensure those experiences are safe and rewarding for our pups 🕵️‍♀️

Sadly, the pandemic has meant that our opportunities to introduce our puppies to our usual way of life has been impacted upon 🥺

Luckily, there are still ways we can combat this by taking them for walks and letting them people watch or by playing sound CD’s 🍀 A dog trainer can help you get creative too!

Puppies can be hard work but the time and effort you put in whilst they are young will be worth it once they have matured 🐶

Happy Friday, Everyone! Does anyone have anything good planned for the weekend?💃🏼

I thought I’d write a little update regarding some of my credentials and what gives me the ability and experience to help you with your four legged best friend 👩‍🎓

I have my own dogs and would want to ensure that I was seeking advice from someone that I can trust so it’s only fair that I share a bit about my professional career with you 🥰

🐾 I am currently employed as a dog behaviourist for an animal welfare charity
🐾 I have cared for and trained rescue dogs for over 9 years
🐾 I have instructed dog training classes for 6 years; teaching puppy life skills, basic training and good companionship
🐾 I have a First Class Honours Degree in Applied Animal Behavioural Science and Welfare
🐾 I have level 3 qualifications in Animal Management and in Canine Behaviour and Training
🐾 I regularly attend seminars and workshops on all things dog to ensure I keep up with my continued professional development

Phew 😅 That’s not an exhaustive list but you get the gist! Below is a picture of my good friend and I on our graduation day. As you can see, I was overjoyed having qualified as a behaviourist 😆

I hope that helps paint a picture of what my professional career to date looks like 🎨

Who here has a four legged best friend? 🐩

Pictured is my dog, Bronson. I rescued him when he was just 5 months old and he had a number of behaviour problems. He disliked being left alone and use to bark and lunge at other dogs whilst on a walk 😳

Bronson was hard work and I used to dread taking him for a walk 😓 However, with a training plan put in place we saw gradual improvements and overtime our relationship with one another was more enjoyable 🥰

Bronson is now a golden oldie who turns 9 in May 🥺 He is living his twilight years with two other dogs (more on them in future posts) and he is the best behaved boy 🐾

If you struggle with your dogs behaviour, you’re not the only one. Even us dog trainers and behaviourist can feel disheartened at times but that’s okay. Like all things in life, we have our ups 🙂 and we have our downs 😕

Good news is that you don’t have to face the challenges alone and your dogs behaviour can be improved 😁

Together, we can set realistic goals that are easy to achieve and I will be there to guide you along the way. Not only do I want to help you with the problem at hand but I also want to teach you to understand your dog for a better all round well behaved dog 🐶
