🐾 Introducing our Progression Books at Jamie Pound Dog Training! 🐾

Whether you’re in a Puppy Class, Beginner Behaviour, or Improver Behaviour class, every handler and dog gets a Progression Book to help track your journey. The book is designed to guide you through eight grades, and for each one you complete, you’ll earn a rosette! 🎉🐕

Here’s how it works:

• There’s no set order to pass the grades—your instructor will tick off the criteria as you go through your classes.
• Our Progression Books give you a visual guide to what you’re working towards, but there’s absolutely no pressure! Some people love having goals, while others just enjoy the fun of training.

The grading system is entirely optional—it’s there if you love having something to aim for. But for those who prefer a more relaxed approach, you can just enjoy the process without worrying about grades!

What about you? We’d love to know how you feel about working towards a goal!

Great News!

We’re pleased to welcome the new Pet Abduction Act, coming into force from today, 24 August, which introduces tougher penalties for stealing dogs- up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.

This law is a crucial step in recognising the emotional value of dogs and the devastation caused to victims of pet theft.

Meet Rua, our handsome one-year-old German Shepherd client! 🐾

Rua’s owner has been with him since he was a pup, and recently she came to us with a concern: Rua gets overly excited when he sees other dogs while on the lead. He barks and squeals with enthusiasm, and she was worried that others might mistake his excitement for aggression. Interestingly, when he’s off lead, Rua is much more relaxed, social, and playful with other dogs. His recall is fantastic, and he walks beautifully on lead—his only hurdle is managing that over-excitement around other dogs when he’s on the lead.

Today, Rua had a one-to-one session with Jamie. Together, they focused on disengagement techniques and calming methods to help Rua manage his arousal levels around other dogs. With a group class happening in the background, they worked at a distance where Rua could stay calm and focused.

At Jamie Pound Dog Training, we believe in taking a slow and steady approach. We don’t offer quick fixes, and we never use corrections. Instead, we’re consistent, we build trust, and we create a safe space for dogs to learn and grow. This method not only helps Rua feel secure in our hands, but it also builds his confidence for the long term.

Rua is well on his way to becoming more relaxed on his lead walks, and we couldn’t be prouder of his progress! 🐕💙

Sometimes as a small business that is PASSIONATE about what they do….as Gemma & I are!

We feel like we are going backwards but.. you’ve got to go backwards sometimes…to go forwards right!

10 years ago next weekend Gemma & I ran our first Dog Show at Chenies Manor, and it’s been going every single year for 10 years and it’s the sort of event you don’t even need to advertise because people know it happens … BUT….

We have taken a plunge and we are starting another Dog Show, which is closer to our newer location in Berkhamsted Jamie Pound Dog Training, this weekend is the first time we’ve done it, we’ve done our best to advertise it and we don’t know how many people turn up or if anyone will turn up…. but we’ve put in all the effort to make it the best day possible for those that do !!!
. And if people do turn up, they’re gonna have the BEST day!
-they’ve got have a go Agility
-have a go recall over jumps
-have a go Scentwork
-we have the “Sniffer Dog Olympics” from the current UK Sniffer Dog’s at Jamie Pound dog training, people can spectate and see what that’s about!

Also they can enter into the different categories like..
-handsome boy
-pretty girl
- cutest puppy
- best rescue
-fastest bonio eater
-best trick, and obviously ..
-Best in the show!
.so we’ve gone all out to make it the best day possible for you and your dogs!

It’s really nice setting at spring meadow farm and a truly special place, with a tea room, barbecue, we got cakes, ice cream, there will be an amazing dog treats stand coming along too …

Nobody may turn up and it could have been a wasted effort but if they do, they’re gonna have an amazing time and we provided that!

We look forward to seeing those that are coming on Saturday….. at Spring Meadow Farm , HP4 2SX.

⭐️ Our Agility 121 sessions are perfect for beginners looking to dip their toe into this fun sport. Or perhaps you attend Agility classes already but looking to fine tune what you've already learnt.

Gill our highly experienced Agility trainer has availability for Agility 121 sessions on Friday's and Saturdays this term.

Typically our 121 sessions in Agility last 30 minutes but we can cater the session to whatever you are looking for, they could be shorter or longer. You could even share the session with a friend!
