🌾🌾🌾 Grass season is truly underway at Croft with several patients finding themselves in need of a helping hand.
Rafa had found his penchant for a side salad with his meal left him with not one, but TWO, long blades of grass stuck behind his soft palate. 😝🐈
Wilma had gotten carried away playing in the fields. Look at how many grass seeds were pulled out of her feet, ears and eyes!! She was so brave that she managed most of the seed retrieval conscious (there were just so many!) 💜💜
We recommend long haired pets who like to take a ramble through the fields should have their fur cut short, particularly between toes and around their ears. It's also important to check these places in particular after every walk for pesky grass seeds. Grass seeds also commonly find their way into armpits, matted fur and lip folds!
Stay vigilant guys, grass seed season is not over yet! ✊

Gorgeous Oogie Boogie🐰 was also in this week for castration, but unlike Lenny who was into snuggling, Oogie was all about the food 😋
We obviously serve excellent hospital food here 💜

Lenny took to getting really snuggly as he recovered from his general anaesthetic yesterday 💜
He can now be a flirt without the follow through 🕺

🌟 Dempsey 🌟
Our patient of the month 💜
🐷Dempsey needed treatment as she'd eaten a pigs trotter WHOLE and it got stuck in her oesophagus- right at the junction of the stomachs sphincter 🙈
You can see the trotter clearly on the x-ray. Surgery was not an option (or at least a costly referral option!) as it was within the chest cavity 🫣. So we got our trusty endoscope out to have a look and unstick it from the sides. We were unable to pull the trotter back up, but we were able to push the trotter into the stomach.
The before and after pictures show how diseased the delicate tissue had become in under 24 hours. Stressing the importance of getting seen as quickly as possible if you think your pet has something stuck in their throat, as a perforation would lead to food contents and stomach acid in the chest cavity, which often proves fatal. Luckily Dempsey's owners did just that.
🌟Dempsey made an incredible recovery, as she was eating immediately after her procedure, despite how sore her throat was! 🙌
But over a week later she was vomiting again, and her owner brought Dempsey back in as she'd been advised the trotter may not stay in the stomach to break down but cause an obstruction elsewhere in the gastrointestinal tract. She laid perfectly still for her check up x-ray and would you believe it had already dissolved and exited her system 🥳 some meds for presumptively eating something else she shouldn't have and she's back to herself (by the end of the consult as well!!)
A happy ending for Dempsey, and what a superstar throughout, she's a credit to her breed (but maybe chew your food next time 😉)

Happy Feline Friday!! 😻
And what a happy day it is, as we've had a wonderful success story reuniting Pantera with her family, a month after she went missing!
Cat owners (and dog owners) are reminded that from the 10th June it is a legal requirement for them both to be microchipped with up to date contact details.
We are happy to help you by scanning your pet and checking if their microchip details are up to date, or we can microchip and register their details to the online database!
And why wouldn't you after a success story like Pantera and her family's 💜❤️
Any animal can be microchipped so get in touch!
We are offering £10 off for cat microchipping with our veterinary nurses, or it's included with our #PetHealthClub

Odessa was brought to us as she had a deep cut to her main pad. Odessa stayed true to her Labrador roots and didn't pay attention to her foot bandage when her favourite snack came out! We wonder how many tubes her owners went through with her bandage changes? 😋

You may have seen on the local socials recently about a young animal needing help... Turns out it was a baby fox!
Our wonderful RVN Tess runs the local wildlife charity #thenutkinward and she collected the little cutie and is acting as surrogate - taking the pup wherever she goes as they need frequent feeding. Aren't those noises incredible?! 💕💜

Here's what to do if you have leftover or unused antibiotics:
💊 Return them to your vet practice for safe disposal
❌ Inappropriate disposal of unused antibiotics could contribute to antimicrobial
resistance and pollute the environment through waterways, affecting our
wildlife
❌ Don’t ever give your pet medication they haven’t been prescribed, whether they be left over or from a previous/similar condition.
🦠Using antibiotics when not needed couldrisk side effects, delay an accurate diagnosis for your pet, mean that your pets condition may not be treatable, and contributes to antimicrobial resistance🦠
🤓Remember that you can return any unused or out of date veterinary medications to us for safe disposal, and can continue to do so all year round!

Our practice is taking part in the 2023 Antibiotic Amnesty 🦠
Throughout November we are asking pet owners to return any unused or leftover antibiotic medications to us for safe disposal
💊Please drop off any unused medications to us at the practice to any member of staff. This medication might be left-over from a previous prescription, antibiotics that you didn’t need or out-of-date medication.
Let’s keep antibiotics working, together!🦸♂️

Let's talk Poo!💩💩
Always a frequent consult topics! And it's not surprising considering so many medical issues can have an effect on the gut.
Whether it is short term or chronic, faeces can tell us a lot about what might be going on with your pet.
But did you know, most cases of loose faeces or diarrhoea can be resolved by a course of probiotics? 🦠
Probiotics contain good bacteria, which help replenish the gut flora back to its normal state.
So whether your pet has eaten something 'off-menu' or picked up a tummy bug up from a walk, try probiotics first alongside a gastrointestinal diet.
The best part is they're cheap, easy to give, and you don't need to see a vet!
We have several options available, and our team would be more than happy to advise you 😊
Of course this advice does not stop you from seeing a vet should you be concerned
