***MY FACT FRIDAY ( have you missed me?)***

Grass seeds……

Grass seeds are small, pointy seeds that are attached to the tops of long grass stems.
Grass seeds have very sharp ends, so although they're tiny, if they become trapped in your dog’s fur, they can burrow down and pierce their skin. If your dog becomes injured by a grass seed, it can be very painful. In rare cases, grass seeds can go under the skin and travel to other areas of your dog’s body, such as their chest. Once they get under the skin, they can become difficult to find.

How can I tell if my dog has been affected by grass seeds?
If your dog has a grass seed stuck in their paw, ear, nose, eyes or skin, you may notice your dog:
* licking their paw constantly and vigorously
* has a painful swelling between their toes
* limping
* shaking their head
* pawing at their ear or rubbing it against surfaces after a walk
* suddenly and violently sneezing
* has redness, swelling or discharge in their eye
* chewing or licking at a sore spot on their skin

If you spot a grass seed in your dog's fur and it has not yet pierced the skin, you can remove it immediately at home to prevent a grass seed injury.
If you can remove the seed then do so, this can done by using a pair of tweezers.
If you spot a seed that has started to burrow into your dog’s skin, or if you think your dog might have a seed in their eye or ear, contact your vet as soon possible.

How can I protect my dog from grass seeds?
You can protect your dog from becoming injured by a grass seed by:
* inspecting your dog's fur after a walk and removing any seeds straight away – this will reduce the risk of grass seeds piercing their skin
* keeping the hair around your dog's ears and paws short to minimise the risk of grass seeds getting stuck in their fur
* avoiding areas with long grass

Hope this helps ♥️

Supporting Idle village & local small businesses 👊

22/05/2024

Bradford Councill have issued a legal notice to start charging for the car park in Idle village.

1 hour - £1
2 hour - £2
Over 3 hours - £4

Idle village is not a tourist attraction, town or city. Idle is a lovely small village where locals go about doing their day to day business, they don’t want to pay to nip here and there.

Please can you spare a moment of your time to send your objections to the council by the midday 7th June?

***MY FACT FRIDAY - SNAKES 🐍***

In the UK, adders and grass snakes can pose a real danger to our beloved pooches. 🚫🐍 Adders, with their venomous bite, can cause serious harm to dogs. Their venom can lead to symptoms ranging from swelling and pain to more severe reactions like vomiting, diarrhea, and even organ damage.
While grass snakes are generally non-venomous, their bites can still lead to infections if not properly treated. So, both adders and grass snakes can be risky encounters for our furry friends. If your dog does get bitten, seek veterinary attention immediately. 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍

***MY FACT FRIDAY - TEETH 🦷***

It’s estimated that about 80% of dogs over the age of 3 have early signs of dental disease - that’s the majority of older dogs!

Gum disease treatment and dental procedures for dogs can make for expensive vet visits.

There are a number of different signs to watch out for when examining your dog’s mouth. Does your dog’s mouth display any of the following?
* Inflamed gums.
* Discoloured teeth.
* Loss of teeth.
* Bad breath
* Pus inside the mouth.
If your dog displays any of the above symptoms you should contact your vet or groomers who offer teeth cleaning.

Why is dog plaque undesirable?

A high build-up of plaque can be a real problem for your dog. This is because once plaque hardens, it turns into tartar. A dog with tartar could be suffering from a number of conditions. These include:
* Gingivitis
* Periodontal disease (receding gums)
* Abscesses

How to get rid of plaque on dog teeth.

* Brush your dog's teeth once a week with a dog-friendly toothbrush.
* Give your dog dental treats.
* Get your dog a professional clean and scaling.

Lots of people have been asking so thought it would be best to put an update on here…..

The council approved the car parking charges in their budget (no surprise there when the council are on their backside).

The council are fully aware that we are not happy and do not support the decision. We are waiting for them to provide details of their implementation plan so that we can go back and appeal it.

I won’t just accept it and will fight as much as I can to try and stop this, as will other businesses in the village.

***MY FACT FRIDAY - NAILS***

Long overgrown nails.

Your dog won't be able to walk or run correctly when their nails get too long. This may cause them to put stress on different joints which can lead to problems like arthritis.

Long nails can become very painful for your dog as they start to curl under and grow into the paw pad, which can eventually lead to an infection.

If your dog’s nails are too long, you’ll likely hear them click-clacking when they walk across the floor. Visually, you can tell if your dog’s nails are too long if their claws jut out past their paw pad or if their nails touch the ground while standing.

With mature dogs, untrimmed nails can cause decreased traction, affect mobility, and even cause pain.
