Just a post to make everyone aware of the dangers of rock salt.

As winter sets in, it’s important to be aware of the hidden dangers that come with the cold weather, one of which is rock salt.

Paw Irritation: Rock salt can cause dryness, cracking, and discomfort to your dog’s paws. They might lick their paws to relieve the irritation, leading to ingestion.

Rock can be toxic and if ingested can lead to vomiting etc.

How to help protect

Wipe Paws: After walks, wipe your dog’s paws with a damp cloth or wash them to remove any salt.

Use Paw Balm: Apply a protective paw balm before heading out. Musher's secret paw protector is great in my opinion 🐾

Booties (if your dog will tolerate them) can help.

Avoid Salted Areas: Try to walk your dog in areas that haven’t been treated with rock salt.

Pet-Friendly De-Icers: Use pet-safe de-icing products around your home.

If you suspect your dog has ingested rock salt, contact your vet immediately. Stay safe and keep those tails wagging! 🐶❄️
