Willow anyone? Going free. We have a huge amount leftover to give away, around 500 rods. It's 6', living (recently cut), good quality, leafless. Good for wreath making, willow domes or whatever. It would grow if inserted into soil. Pick-up only, any day from BD7.

Last week's Growing Hope session was magical! We ate Pite - a scrumptious Albanian pie - courtesy of dear Leonora, and made a delicious campfire stew with Leonard's supervision! We also celebrated a small human turning 1 - hence Sam's dashing party hat. πŸ’œ

Tomorrow's session is cancelled due to rundown practitioners, but we'll be in touch with regulars next week. If you'd like to join us, email [email protected] and we'll be in touch.

Open to sanctuary seekers (asylum seekers and refugees). Free hot lunch and travel reimbursement provided. Warm coats, shoes, gloves, hats and blankets available.

We look forward to welcoming you.

A gall starts growing when a gall wasp lays an egg, in this case on an oak tree. The sphere provides a home as the new gall wasp develops. Once mature, the wasp bores a hole to escape through. I never knew they could be this colourful! These were found on the farm and were most likely home to oak apple gall wasps. The galls start off green but slowly take on this vibrant red with yellow spots perhaps for the same reason a leaf changes colour.

Here are just some of the fantastic mushrooms we've spotted this Autumn on the farm. Can you help us ID them? A highlight was finding shaggy ink caps for the first time. Maryam took advantage and cooked some up!

We had a wonderful day, welcoming 22 people to our Growing Hope and volunteer sessions. We roasted potatoes, corn, mushrooms, and cheese & tomato filled wraps on the campfire. We dipped pineapple and strawberries into dark melted chocolate. Next week we plan to cook an Albanian inspired stew, and I hear rumours of homemade pie, pickles and s'mores! Of course we did some gardening, harvesting green tomatoes and clearing beds. So grateful to our funders, who enable these valuable sessions to take place. And we are especially grateful to the people we meet and the connections we nurture each week πŸ’š

Sam and Ru harvesting corn. Can you believe we've seen a squirrel run away with a whole cob... twice! Happy to share our bounty of course 🐿️🌽 Maryam provided some monkey nuts so they feel well looked after. 🧑

"Especially now, in this hostile climate faced by q***r and trans folks, we need to remember who has historically fought for our rights, and we must come together as a community to protect them. Black trans women must be centred, uplifted and celebrated."

My Narrative

as you listen to me
speak
what do you hear?
my African accent?

as you look at me now
what do you see?
the poor village girl?

is my narrative a story
without colour?

do you hear me
for me?

would you hear me different
if I was of another race?
with a different accent?

who do I talk for?
for myself
or for all the black people
you know

do I represent
the ancient wisdom
of my ancestors?

just in case
you have not yet
discovered

I am from Africa
but I don’t represent
all the black people

I am me

when I speak
I want you to know
I speak for myself
I don’t represent people
I speak to people
not for people
I speak for myself
that is my narrative
Is it not time you also spoke
yours
