Hi all, polite reminder that there is scheduled road works on the bridge on Victoria street which means that part of the road will be closed from 8pm tonight hopefully it will be back open by Monday morning, however we are still open and there is still access from the traffic lights to our road and there’s also access from the end of the road. 😊

𝗦𝗢𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗛𝗔𝗬 💧 𝗜𝗡 𝗛𝗢𝗧 𝗪𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 ☀🔥 If you're soaking your horse's hay in much hotter weather, we'd recommend:

✅ Soaking it for a shorter time ⏱ than usual (1-3 hours)
✅ Refresh the water each time
✅ Keep it in a shady/cool place to reduce the risk of fermentation
✅ Be sure to rinse with fresh water, after soaking, to reduce any possible bacterial content

Horses are trickle feeders who thrive on a high-fibre diet, which includes grass and long forage such as hay and haylage. If a horse does not consume enough fibre in it’s diet, it could lose weight due to a reduction in calories and the loss of their important central heating system.

If your horse struggles to chew long forage, or is stabled during the day due to warmer summer weather, consider providing them with Fast Fibre. This unique product is a quick-soaking, easy-to-eat, high-fibre mash that, with its specialist formulation, can be used as a partial forage replacement or top-up if your horse is a little fussy. It’s designed to make life easier for those who struggle with long forage, ensuring your horse still gets enough fibre in their diet.

When feeding a partial hay replacer like Fast Fibre, it’s crucial to ensure the horse takes as long as possible to finish. This way, we can be certain they are eating for longer, which is essential for their overall health and well-being. Using large, smooth stones in the bucket, splitting the feed into multiple buckets, and adding some molasses-free chaff (if they can manage it) will all elongate eating time.

𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗺 & 𝗪𝗲𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿... 𝗟𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 ⚠️
A very wet summer paired with warmer days are great for grass growth. Unfortunately, if you have a laminitis-prone horse, this is not ideal.

Even if your horse has not had laminitis before, the uncharacteristic weather is causing a spike in new cases. The best thing you can do for your horse is 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁!

If you have concerns about managing your horse's weight, start with the following:
1️⃣ Review your horse's hay intake - but NEVER starve an overweight horse, even if they are suffering with laminitis.
2️⃣ Consider grass intake - your horse may require a grazing muzzle or other means of management.
3️⃣ Review their exercise - research has shown that exercise can improve insulin sensitivity further helping to reduce the risk of laminitis.
4️⃣ Don't forget the hard feed - to ensure key nutrients are being supplied whilst still reducing the risk of laminitis, aim to feed a hard feed that is low in starch and sugar and high in fibre, don't withdraw hard feed all together.
