Just over a year ago, poor Indy had quite a nasty freak accident and somehow went through/over a set of double gates smashing them to peices, over a footpath that runs between two of our fields and somehow into an empty field near by ( without taking down any fencing? How/why she did it still remains a mystery to this day. When we found her had several injuries, including a swollen face, a bloody nose, quite a few superficial cuts and grazes all over, and a rather nasty cut to the front of her foreleg, it was right down to the cannon bone, and apart from a very small corner it couldn't be stitched as there was skin and tissue missing.
Under the expert guidance of Magda from Fuller Equine Veterinary Practice several months and an awful lot of dressing changes the wound finally closed up.
1 year on, and it is just a small scar now, with the tiniest amount of proud flesh. Its amazing how the body can heal itself.
All of her treatment and dressing changes were done from the field, as we didn't want to upset her even more by taking her away from her little herd. We felt that would have been more of a hindrance to her recovery.
Don't look at the pictures if you are squeamish. They are a bit gory.
Ps, the yellow substance around the wounds is not infection, its Manuka honey. Despite being treated from the field, we were very lucky, and managed to keep it very clean, and infection free.
