When I ask for feet and legs to be clean and dry and a clean level shoeing area it’s not because I dont want to get my hands dirty or I’m being a fairy, it’s because being a farrier is a dangerous job without having slippery wet legs or a uneven working area.

French farrier, Lilian Martinez, was killed by a horse he was shoeing, he was 32 years old. Farriery is a dangerous occcupation with a high risk of injury, impacting on physical and, ultimately, mental health. RIP Lilian. Just A Reminder To Remove The Halter off your horse when put out to pasture or stall or use a break away halter. Halters can snag the halter on Horse Shoes and many other things like Stock fencing too!

Sunday Shoeing for my wife. As her horse has got older he has started landing uneven due to some arthritic changes and was overloading the insides of both feet and weakening the hoof structure. After 2 shoeings with bar shoes his feet are now strong and landing more level due to dissipating the load across the whole hoof.

Giving this damaged hoof plenty of support. At some point in this horses life it has injured its coronet band where the hoof grows from. It’ll have a defect forever but supporting it will decrease the chance of it becoming an lameness issue in the future.

New client today needing a full set of remedial shoes as the horse has coffin joint problems in its front feet and negative palmar angles in its hind pedal bones. Fronts trimmed to x rays and shod with wide web side clips and a full mesh 3D pad and comfort mix hoof cushion. Hinds shod with a lateral extension wide web shoe with half mesh 3D pads and comfort mix hoof cushion.

The Joys of being self employed, out working Bank holiday Monday doing remedial shoeing.
Last photo showing the progress since taking this particular horse on and shoeing it with Mustad Libero side clip fronts fitted with the 3D Hoofcare Front Half Mesh Pad and Mustad Comfort Mix Hoof Cushion. These 3D hoofcare pads are designed to stop the frog from descending to the ground through peripheral loading of the hoof wall that results in sore heels and possible corns.
