Obesity Awareness Week 10th Jan-16th Jan💚
We’ve all over indulged in the Christmas treats; our pets included!
Did you know that vets estimate that nearly half of the dogs in the UK are overweight & from research carried out in 2021,1 in 14 dogs were classified as obese/overweight by their vet in one year.
Overweight cats & dogs are more at risk of developing arthritis, urine incontinence & cruciate ligament problems to name a few
During this week we will be sharing our top nutrition tips & tricks from how often we should be feeding our pets, how bad human snacks are to our pets & what we can offer here at Braintree Vets4Pets to help💚
Wishing all of our wonderful clients & patients a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year🎄🎅
Did you know lungworm can be fatal in dog?
Dogs can get lungworm through ingesting infected snails & slugs. They can even get infected by coming in to contcat with their slime too!!
If your pet is regularly treated with prescription flea & worm treatment then there is a high chance they are already receiving protection for this.
If you are unsure then please contact the practice and we can advise upon this for you💚
Tick Bite Prevention Week🪳🪳
- The beginning of Spring & early Summer is when ticks are most active so it is paramount that we take the necessary precautions to keep our furry friends safe!
- Dogs make easy targets especially when they're out for walks in woodlands/grassy areas however they can also attach to our cats too
- Best way to protect our furry friends is with preventative treatment
- We advise checking your dogs thoroughly after being outside especially around the head & ears, in between toes, underneath the tail, groin area, under collar & around the armpits.
Ticks typically need to be attached for 24-48hrs before they can transmit infections such as Lyme Disease so removing any ticks as soon as possible is advised. We recommend either removing them yourself with a tick remover or arranging an appointment with one of our nurses on 01376 348934💚
