Remember the wildlife especially hedgehogs

Check your bonfires before you light them, there could be hedgehogs in there hiding.

πŸŽƒ Halloween Tips to Keep Your Dogs Happy and Calm πŸŽƒ

As Halloween approaches, it’s the season for spooky costumes, trick-or-treaters at the door, and a lot of unfamiliar activity for our four-legged friends. Here are some tips to help keep your dog relaxed and happy during the festivities:

1. Create a Safe Space πŸ›‹οΈ
Set up a cosy, quiet area away from the front door where your dog can feel safe. A familiar blanket, their favourite toy, or a filled treat puzzle can help them settle in this space.
2. Plan for the Doorbell Drama πŸšͺπŸ””
With trick-or-treaters popping by, the doorbell can become a big stressor. If your dog is sensitive to it, consider turning it off or placing a sign outside asking visitors to knock quietly. Or, play calming music in their safe space to help mask the sound.
3. Calm Rewards πŸͺ
When your dog is calm and settled, reward them with a small treat or quiet praise. This positive reinforcement can help them feel more relaxed and stay settled.
4. Mind the Costumes! πŸ§›β€β™‚οΈπŸΎ
Costumes are fun for us but can be alarming for dogs. If your dog seems unsure about costumes, let them approach on their own terms, or keep the costumes in another room until the excitement dies down.
5. Safety First with Treats 🍫🍬
Keep Halloween sweets out of reach! Many are toxic for dogs, especially chocolate and sugar-free goodies containing xylitol. Have some dog-friendly treats on hand so they don’t feel left out.
6. Take Them Out Before Dark πŸŒ†πŸΆ
A walk before the trick-or-treaters start their rounds can help burn off some energy and set them up for a relaxed evening at home.

Let’s make Halloween safe and enjoyable for our furry friends! Share your Halloween with usβ€”how are you keeping your dogs calm this year? πŸŽƒπŸΎ
