Taking advantage of the Summerβs day yesterday
All grass hacks got a chop and then onto paddocks to cut down the weeds.

West Drums Livery is now a DIY Livery. West Drums Livery is a quiet yard, itβs not the main farm so the farmers only come to see to the crops and leave. We have π in the sheds all winter.
Our DIY includes
π² Straw bedding
π Hay
π² Stable with rubber mats
π Field with electric fencing
π² Turnout all year
π 24/7 grazing April to October or later depending on the weather then stabled over night
π² Bothy with toilet and shower and a heater - needed in the winter to have a coffee after a hack and get heated up

π Outdoor arena
π² Grass Showfield with dressage markers and jumps out, open April - September
π Lots or on site hacking
π² A 15minute walk hack to Montreathmont forest, where you can spend hours around the tracks and jumping logs

Lots of fillers were out today and some ponies were not a fan of the straw bales.
The course is available for hire - come and practice over a variety of jumps.

West Drums 7 mile hack - Sunday 28th July
We are running a last minute hack on Sunday, round field grass margins, tracks and woodland. Similar to the one in Feb 2023.
* Distance 7 miles
* Start between 10 and 11am
* Time - around 1h 30m to 2h 30m
Costs Β£20 per horse
New hack for everyone, modelled by Luca πΎ

Map will be posted and signs up.

Times
60cm - walk round 9.45am
70cm - walk round 10.35am
80cm - walk round 11am
This is going ahead - smaller classes but lots of fun. Dress in casual, no competition dress needed.
Weather looks good
Classes start at 10am

A new course of 10 jumps will be up and different fillers out.

On Sunday SDRC held their annual Working Hunter competition here at West Drums.
With over 60 entries and qualifiers for the last Blair show, it was a full on day.
Many thanks to the club, volunteers, judges and Julie who built the course.

π Working Hunter Course on grass is OPEN π
The working Hunter jumps are in the Showfield however this year Deborah is only taking on the bottom part of the Showfield. The jumps are sectioned off.
Enter as normal and walk down by the row of trees into the jump area. The section can be closed off with the rope.
Prices are staying the same as last year for April and May. Β£20 for 1 horse and Β£25 for two, for one hour.

** New for February & March **
We will be opening a new grass jumping field where our Working Hunter Jumps will be set out.
Whatβs so special about this?
- Itβs a hilly field - great horse fitness. Practice a jump before and after a hill.
What will it look like?
- The perimeter of the grass field will have jumps dotted around. You can change the heights, not the placements of the jumps
When will it be open?
- Aiming for next weekend - depends on when ground dries up a bit
Cost per hour (private hire)
- 1 horse Β£20
- 2 horses Β£25
Hire Cost per hour (with instructor)
- 1 horse Β£10
- 2 horses Β£15
How to get to it?
- Park as normal at the yard and hack on a safe grass track down to the field. Will only take a few minutes. Instructors can park down at the field.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Letβs hope 2024 is not as wet as 2023 as we would love to run more hacks and jumping competitions in the Showfield.
In 2024, we will be taking on DIY and Assisted Liveries 5 days a week, Monday - Friday. Unfortunately we no longer offer Full Livery or weekend assistance.

We have had messages asking about our horses. Thank you all β€οΈ
π The horses and ponies π are all tucked up in their stables, they all seem very happy to be inside away from the wind and rain.
Lots of them were enjoying a turnip today including Vogan here.

The liveries have been brilliant, keeping everyone up to date on roads open and how to get to the yard and helping with yard duties.
π A valuable note from one of liveries, Catriona Haigh who is battling this awful weather driving an ambulance - donβt drive if you donβt need do!
We have 2 isolation stables at West Drums if you need somewhere dry till the weather is better

One of the last days of our late Summer. The Angus Pony Club enjoyed a full on day of events in the Showfield yesterday at their Gymkhana. All events from showjumping to pony club games. Well done to all the riders, ponies, and helpers.
The sun is shining on our Annual Gymkhana, with classes started.

Indoor arena upgrade, adding CLOPF fibres
November is the month for our Indoor Arena Upgrade. The Indoor was riding a bit deep so we contacted Martin Collins Enterprises Ltd who advised us and here we have more CLOPF fibres being added.
