This weekend has got me thinking and as we have some time to think it’s easy to reflect on what we try to be which is to be kind, but sometimes it’s not always possible to be nice.
And there’s a crucial difference.
Being nice is easy. It’s agreeable. It’s saying yes to everything.
Being kind? That’s harder. It requires tough love. It means saying no to good things so you can say yes to great things.
Example: coming in to your favourite fish store when you have issues with your water and your desperate for the new fish that has been reserved for you for weeks….being nice would be to let you buy it….being kind would be to say wait let’s test your water first and get you on track we will keep the fish a while longer……
Nice = letting everyone push in front of you in the coffee queue
Kind = respecting your own time and the commitments you’ve made to others
Nice = avoiding difficult conversations
Kind = having them, because you care about long-term growth.
Nice = telling people what they want to hear
Kind = telling them what they need to hear.
Kindness can be tough and uncomfortable, but it’s always rooted in genuine care for others’ wellbeing and growth.
So next time you’re faced with a decision, ask yourself: Am I being nice? Or am I being kind?
Choose kindness. Even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard……and sometimes if we don’t tell you what you really want to hear it’s not because we don’t want to be nice it’s because we’re trying to be kind….always ❤️💙❤️
