Teaching obedience to dogs is essential for several reasons. First and foremost, obedience training fosters a safe environment. Well-trained dogs are less likely to engage in dangerous behaviours, such as running into traffic or jumping on strangers.

Additionally, obedience enhances the bond between a dog and its owner. It promotes clear communication, helping owners convey their expectations to their pets, which can lead to a more harmonious relationship.

Furthermore, obedience training can prevent behavioural issues, such as excessive barking or chewing, as dogs learn appropriate ways to interact with their surroundings. It also allows dogs to enjoy more freedom, as owners can trust them to respond to commands in various situations.

Ultimately, teaching obedience is not just about compliance; it enriches the dog’s life, enhances their well-being, and fosters a positive and fulfilling companionship.l 🐾🐾

🐶PUPPY SOCIAL (adult social cancelled due to illness)

Get your dogs socialising in a controlled monitored environment, they will love you for it!

Socialisation is crucial for dogs because it helps them develop essential skills and behaviours that benefit their mental and emotional well-being, as well as their relationships with humans and other animals. Here are some reasons:

🐶Reduces fear and anxiety: Socialisation helps dogs become confident and calm in the presence of new people, animals, sights, and sounds, reducing their fear and anxiety levels.
Improves behaviour: Well-socialized dogs are less likely to develop behavioural problems, such as aggression, fear-based behaviours, or destructive behavior, due to a lack of exposure to various environments and situations.

🐶Enhances learning: Socialisation helps dogs learn to interact with humans and other animals more effectively, which can improve their ability to learn new skills and respond to commands.

🐶Develops emotional intelligence: Socialisation helps dogs develop emotional intelligence by teaching them to read social cues, such as body language and vocalisations, which is essential for building strong relationships.

🐶Enhances trainability: Socialisation makes dogs more receptive to training, as they are more likely to trust and respond to their handlers.

🐶Improves communication: Socialisation helps dogs develop effective communication skills, enabling them to express their needs and wants more clearly.

There’s so many other reasons to type up, but trust us when we say, we see so many dogs with reactivity issues as they’ve barely been socialised, and behaviour issues cost wayyyy more to fix than our socials! 🐶

Impulse control is one of the 33 different topics we cover in Day Training!

Snowy in the photo has done lots of impulse control work and you’d never know she is the same dog 🥰

It is highly beneficial for dogs for several key reasons:

🐶Enhanced Safety: Training dogs to manage their impulses reduces the risk of hazardous situations. Dogs with good impulse control are less likely to dash into traffic or chase after animals, keeping them safer.

🐶Improved Behaviour: Impulse control helps mitigate common behavioural problems like jumping on people, snatching food, and excessive barking. Dogs learn to wait for cues, leading to more respectful and manageable behaviour.

🐶Greater Focus and Patience: Dogs practicing impulse control develop better focus and patience. They learn to wait calmly, which is particularly beneficial in environments with multiple dogs or high levels of activity.

🐶Reduced Stress: By learning to stay calm in stimulating situations, dogs experience less stress. This creates a more serene atmosphere for both the dog and their household.

🐶Stronger Owner-Dog Bond: Consistent training for impulse control fosters better communication and trust between dogs and their owners, strengthening their relationship.

🐶Enjoyable Activities: Dogs with impulse control can more fully participate in activities such as walks, hikes, and social gatherings without causing disruptions, making these experiences more enjoyable for everyone involved.

🐶Foundation for Advanced Training: Impulse control is a fundamental skill for more complex training. Dogs who can manage their impulses are better suited for advanced tasks and specialised roles, including therapy and service work.

🐶Better Social Interactions: Well-controlled impulses lead to more pleasant interactions with humans and other animals. Dogs are less likely to display over-excitement or aggression, resulting in smoother and more positive social engagements.

In summary, impulse control training enhances a dog's safety, behaviour, focus, and stress management, while also strengthening their bond with their owner and improving their participation in various activities and social interactions. It is a crucial foundation for advanced training and overall well-being.

One of the 33 topics covered in Day Training is Basic obedience.

It’s super beneficial for dogs for several reasons:

🐾Improved Behaviour: It helps instil good manners and reduces undesirable behaviours such as jumping, barking, and chewing.

🐾Enhanced Safety: Trained dogs are easier to control in potentially dangerous situations, ensuring their safety and that of others around them.

🐾Stronger Bond: Training sessions strengthen the relationship between dogs and their trainers and owners (make sure to take advantage of discounted 1-2-1s) through consistent communication and positive interaction.

🐾 Mental Stimulation: Obedience training challenges a dog’s mind, keeping them mentally engaged and preventing boredom.

🐾Better Socialisation: Training often involves exposure to different environments, people, and other animals, helping dogs become more comfortable and well-behaved in various settings.

🐾Confidence Building: Successfully learning new commands boosts a dog's confidence, making them more secure and well-adjusted.

🐾Easier Management: A well-trained dog is easier to manage on a daily basis, making routine activities such as walking, vet visits, and grooming more straightforward.

Overall, basic obedience training contributes to a dog's physical, mental, and emotional state, so make sure you are training! 🐶

SHARE FOR SAFETY OF DOGS AND HORSES

**Welfare for Dogs and Horses During High Temperatures in Wales**🐴🐾

As temperatures rise in Wales, it's crucial to ensure the safety and welfare of our dogs and horses are not accustomed to this heat. High temperatures can pose significant risks to our animals, potentially leading to serious health issues such as heatstroke. Here’s what you need to know to keep your animals safe during these warmer days.

Heat stroke is a very serious condition that can progress quickly and occurs when animal is unable to lose body heat and its body temperature increases rapidly. In dogs, in severe cases, heatstroke cause seizures, organ damage and death. In horses, severe lheat stroke can lead to collapse, renal failure, muscle damage, liver damage and laminitis and can be fatal.

Symptoms of heatstroke in dogs include:

🐾Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
🐾Increased heart rate
🐾Drooling or foaming at the mouth
🐾Weakness or lethargy
🐾Disorientation or confusion
🐾Vomiting or diarrhea
🐾 In severe cases, seizures or loss of consciousness

Other things to consider in Dogs:
🐾Brachycephalic Breeds: Breeds like Bulldogs, Pugs, and Boxers are particularly susceptible to heat stress due to their short snouts, which can make breathing more difficult, especially in high temperatures.
🐾Obesity: Overweight dogs struggle to regulate their body temperature and are at greater risk of overheating.
🐾Age and Health Conditions: Older dogs and those with pre-existing health conditions may also be more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.

Symptoms of heatstroke in Horses included-
🐴Excessive sweating
🐴Rapid heart rate (sometimes an irregular rhythm) (normal resting heart rate 28-44 beats per minute)
🐴Rectal temperature above 39.8°C (normal range is 37.5 – 38.5°C)
🐴Heavy rapid breathing
🐴Altered behaviour
🐴 Refusal to drink water
🐴 decreased performance
🐴Lethargic and more.

Please Keep Your Animals Safe 🙏🙏

For Dogs:🐾
🐾Hydration: Always provide fresh, cool water.
🐾Limit Exercise: Schedule walks during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening. Avoid vigorous play under the midday sun.
🐾Cooling Accessories: Use pet cooling vests or bandanas, and make shady spots available for rest.
🐾Never Leave in Cars: Even for a short time, the temperature inside a car can rise rapidly, leading to heatstroke.

For Horses:🐴
🐴Provide Shade: Ensure your horse has access to shaded areas or stalls where they can escape the heat.
🐴Regular Hydration: Monitor water intake and consider providing electrolytes to encourage drinking.
🐴Adjust Exercise Routines: Reschedule training or riding sessions to cooler times of the day and avoid strenuous activities in high temperatures.
🐴Observe behaviours: Watch for signs of behaviour changes.

Remember, prevention is always better than cure—take the necessary steps to protect your animals from the heat, and you’ll both enjoy the sunny days ahead!

Hey everyone!

Thank you for all your birthday wishes, I really appreciate it. Gareth’s spoilt me wayyyyy to much 😂

It’s not often we get down time. Trying to keep up with messages and emails etc, I don’t think we’ve successfully had one trip that doesn’t involve work in some way. What this week has given me the time to do (because I’m always awake before everyone😂) is put together all the videos with the lovely Vet Hannah.

Gareth and I are soo passionate about bringing educational material out about stress levels, pain related behaviours etc, and I was thrilled that Hannah was on board too 😁

A learning point from the videos is how I need to control my ADHD because the tangents I go off on is insane, it’s made far more content than we planned to have which is amazing, but putting it all together so it makes sense is the more difficult part 😂 but…. We are going to release one of the videos today!

One of the horses we went to see a couple of weeks ago, had some behavioural issues, I stated we really need to get a back person involved as I thought it was pain rather than just behaviour, and they come back to me this week and said it was pain. We seee this ALOT. Thankfully most of our owners believe us and investigate it. Horses are super tolerant and it makes us sooo sad when people are still using fear and force with equine behavioural issues, of course the horse will stop that behaviour if they are too scared, which is stopping their only way of communication, but as I say regularly, ‘Our work isn’t done’.

Friday, we called into work for a dog, which I’ll go into more detail about next week, but I spent most of the duration friday in tears and I really struggled to keep together, but nevertheless Gareth (whilst I blubbered on the sofa in the office) set him up for the best chance in his trail ever. And all I’ve done all weekend is think about him. Story for next week 🥰

It’s interesting having time off, I’m sitting with a cuppa and Gareth keeps getting up and down not knowing what to do with himself. Something we have spoke about to manage the extra long waiting list we have, is committing to a couple of evenings a week, which we may release soon! We’ve spoke about really managing our time in the best way possible which can be tricky sometimes when we try to find a balance between work and life, but we LOVE what we doo ❤️

Anyway, here’s Duke the Llama. He’s pretty cool! He lives with a Shetland pony, Charlie. It’s interesting to see his response to Charlie as Charlie herds him around the field! Now all I want to do is see how much he responds to horse training 😂

Myself and Gareth have soo many new ideas to bring to you soon❤️

Much love,

Carley ❤️

24/07/2024

Decompression is essential for learning in dogs, as it allows them to release built-up stress and anxiety that can hinder their ability to focus and retain new information. Similar to humans, dogs experience various stressors in their daily lives, which can impact their overall well-being and learning capabilities.

During training sessions, a dog's state of mind plays a significant role in their receptiveness to commands and ability to learn new behaviours. If a dog is feeling stressed or overwhelmed, their attention may be scattered, making it challenging for them to concentrate on training tasks. By incorporating decompression activities into their routine, such as engaging in relaxing walks, interactive play sessions, or providing quiet time for rest, dogs can unwind and reset their minds, creating a more conducive environment for learning.

Engaging in decompression activities before training sessions can help calm a dog's nerves, allowing them to enter a more relaxed and focused state. This enables them to better engage with their owner or trainer, follow commands more effectively, and retain information more efficiently. Decompression is a vital piece of the puzzle we focus on heavily here on our programmes ❤️🐾

PAIRING

We prioritize the careful matching of dogs based on their play styles, learning abilities, temperaments, and breed traits to ensure successful and positive experiences as much as possible. Here's a brief overview of how we take all these factors into account:

1. Play Styles: Our team observes and assesses the play styles of each dog to identify their preferences and tendencies during interactions with other dogs. By understanding their individual play styles, we can pair dogs that complement each other and enjoy compatible play sessions.

2. Learning Abilities: We tailor our training approaches based on the learning abilities of each dog. By recognizing their unique cognitive strengths and challenges, we can match dogs with similar learning capabilities to enhance training effectiveness and communication.

3. Temperaments: We conduct temperament assessments to evaluate the characteristics and temperaments of our canine students. This allows us to match dogs with compatible temperaments and minimise potential conflicts or stress between pairs.

4. Breed Traits: Considering the specific needs and characteristics of different dog breeds is essential in our pairing process. We take into account breed traits, such as energy levels, drive, and socialisation requirements to name a few, to make informed decisions when matching dogs for optimal compatibility and well-being.

By integrating these considerations into our matchmaking process, we aim to promote positive relationships, enriching experiences, and overall well-being for the dogs on our programmes. Our commitment to thoughtful and strategic pairings reflects our dedication to our roles ❤️🐾

Combining fun with training at our center is key to keeping your dog engaged, happy, and healthy. By integrating games and play into our sessions, we not only enhance the learning experience but also increase the likelihood of the dog wanting to continue learning. Our approach goes beyond basic commands; we focus on improving your dog's physical and mental well-being through interactive exercises that promote agility, coordination, and overall fitness. Training sessions that are enjoyable and rewarding contribute to your dog's emotional health by boosting confidence and reducing anxiety, ultimately leading to a happier, more capable and willing companion. It can have a tremendous effect on existing behaviour as well as helping prevent unwanted ones too!

20/07/2024

Teaching a dog boundaries at entrances and exits is important for their safety and the safety of others. By setting clear boundaries at doorways, you can prevent your dog from bolting outside or rushing in when the door is open. This can help avoid accidents, such as running into the street or knocking over someone entering the home. Additionally, teaching boundaries at entrances and exits can prevent your dog from becoming overly excited or anxious in these situations, promoting calm and controlled behaviour. Consistent training at doorways can establish good habits that carry over to other areas of your dog's life too! Boundary work is just one of the 33 topics we cover in our programme 🐾🐾

Our Story

We started almost 5 years ago after moving back to South Wales. Although there are already great companies around us, there was something missing. Training that incorporates the psychology of the dog AND human. Already armed with a wealth of experience and a drive to provide the best service, we dove straight into it and opened up. As any business that just starts, business was steady to grow, until we took on the cases no one else would. We quickly grew a reputation for rehabilitating dogs who 'couldn't be helped', (some even scheduled for euthanasia!), and it took off.

Fast forward 5 years and we're an award winning company providing the highest level of behaviour work, obedience training and dog care throughout South Wales. We work where others won't. We never give up, and we work to provide a service like no other and we have no intention of stopping!
