πΎ Top tips to encourage loose lead walking:
β
If your dog pulls on the lead, stop for a few
seconds. When the lead is slack start
walking a few steps rewarding your dog for
not pulling.
β
Keep training sessions short.
β
Encourage and engage with your dog.
β
Always reward wanted behaviours.
β
Don't expect too much from your dog.
β
Be patient and consistent.
β
Practice, practice, practice.
β
Take your time on walks and allow your
dog to stop, sniff and explore.
β
Be realistic, heeling is different to lose lead
walking - donβt expect your dog to heel by
your side all the time but when you really
need them too. Dogs need to be able to
walk nicely on the lead and still enjoy their
walk without pulling you over!
β Don't punish your dog.
β Avoid letting your dog pull to get to where
he wants to.
β Don't keep yanking your dog on the lead to
correct them.
Some dogs might prefer and be better with a properly fitted no pull harness. Need help or to find out more: www.naomipaydogbehaviour.com #dogbehaviourist #dogbehaviour #dogtrainingtips #dogtraining #dogpulling
