🐾October is... Adopt a Shelter Dog Month 🐕
Share with us photos of your Rescue Pups below. 📸🐶

Every year, thousands of dogs in rescue centres wait patiently for their forever home. Whether it’s a young puppy or a wise old soul, rescue dogs have lots of love to give. By adopting, you can give a dog the loving home they truly deserve.
We know that for some families, buying from a responsible breeder may be the right choice - and that’s ok too. But if you’re in a position to adopt, it’s a wonderful way to make a real difference.
What matters most is making thoughtful, informed decisions that puts the dog’s welfare first.
Thinking about adding a dog to your family? Read our guide on adopting vs. buying:

📸Cute photo Alert📸
Vinnie is one of several dogs who have been seeing one of our vets, Alexa, who has a GPCert in Opthalmology 👁. Vinnie is prone to eye ulcers as he's always got his head in the bushes or out of a car window - after losing one eye to an infected deep ulcer earlier this year, his doggles help protect the remaining eye.
We are sure you will all agree he looks very cool with those shades on 😎 you may spot him, with his head out of the car window when driving around Bridgnorth town.

🐶Leo's story🎣
When out on a walk, Leo was seen to swallow a fish hook which was on the bank.
Thanks to the owner's swift action, bringing him down to us, we were able to safely remove the fish hook before it could cause any damage. 🎣 who can spot the hook in his x-ray. Bonus point if you can spot his microchip too. 💊
If you see your pet, swallow a fish hook make sure you follow this advice:
🎣Call us immediately on 01746 763998
🎣DO NOT pull on the fishing line or try to remove it yourself. You can cause tears in the tongue, oesophagus or stomach
🎣DO NOT cut the fishing line. Instead, hold onto the end of it. This prevents it from slipping further down the gastrointestinal tract and can help the vet when trying to remove it later on

🐶Stiggy's story 🐶
Stiggy was brought down to our Bridgnorth Hospital recently because the owners noticed that his abdomen was swelling up and he was repeatedly vomiting.
An ultrasound, revealed he had a lot of gas in his stomach and he had Gastric Dilation, which can be a precursor for Gastric-dilation and Volvulus (GDV), a life-threatening condition.
Thanks to the quick actions of our vets and nurses, they were able to decompress the stomach and he has made a full recovery.

Deep chested dogs such as Great Danes, Dobermans, Dachshund, Mountain dogs etc. are prone to the condition known as GDV. This is where the stomach fills with gas and then rotates on it's self, cutting off blood supply and is a life threatening situation.

If you notice any of the symptoms listed below, make sure you call us immediately on 📞01746 763998:
🐾 Retching or unproductive vomiting (when they bring up a nothing or a small amount of foam)
🐾Bloat (swollen tummy) – this might not be obvious if your dog’s tummy is tucked up under their ribcage
🐾Restlessness – panting and pacing
🐾Excessive drooling
🐾Collapse
🐾Difficulty breathing
🐾Pale gums
We offer prophylactic gastropexy, where the stomach is sutured to the abdominal wall to prevent it from rotating (Volvulus). 📞Call us NOW to book a consultation with a member of our clinical team to discuss this for your pet.
