Hi horse friends, bit of an announcement…
After 25 years running herds of horses on the side of tuck hill in Shropshire I’ve decided it’s time to say goodbye.
It’s taken me a long time to reach this point in my life as I love horses but with a young family with ever evolving needs, as well as well as wanting to take care of my own health, something has to give.
Over the last five years since loosing my mum, who helped me build the farm up from just a ploughed field, I have ended up in hospital three times, once for cancer surgery and twice with nervous overwhelm bought on by untreated ADHD.
I have too many memories here of a life that no longer exists so after 5 extremely challenging years it’s time for a new adventure, a different kind of life that allows me to put my two beautiful children, my wonderful partner David and very much my health, at the forefront without the demands of living with livestock.
All of my courses are made up of various combinations of lessons the horses have taught me over the years that I will continue to share with you all just from your place not mine.
I can’t wait to expand my freelancing again and catch up on any lost time and continue to support your equestrian development and I thank you all sincerely for the warmth and understanding you bought to me, my family and of course our horses over the last 25 years.

After a nightmare few months on lockdown with a strangles outbreak we are bouncing back.
We are aware there hasn’t been much communication with regards to courses and training due to the overwhelming nature of dealing with the outbreak, and so I have enlisted the help of my good friend, Rachael Carter, who has worked with me for many years.
She will be manning [email protected] to help us schedule and arrange all future training dates.
We can’t wait to get back on track and support your ongoing equestrian development.

Training and Livery Rescheduled!!!

Unfortunately due to a strangles outbreak we will now be on lock down for the next month to prevent the spread of this nasty virus.
All training, clinics and lessons will still be honoured, just bare with us while we get through this challenging time.

On a happier note the herd welcomed this beautiful baby girl over night, she is absolutely beautiful 😍 🦄

RONNIE LEARNING A NEW MOVE … ONE FOOT AT A TIME

Had our first session of the year today in the beautiful spring sunshine with Arran Parker at Student of the Horse. As is becoming the usual for Ronnie and I we move on to something new and feel like novices again. Once I’ve had time to process and work thru exactly what I’m trying to achieve I can start to do the individual parts of the exercise so that I can get a bit more flow within the work and be more helpful to Ronnie to set her up correctly. It’s often all about timing and getting the cues happening to support her learning … that can be a challenge when you’ve got several other things to be aware of too. The odd bit of brain fog can creep in.
I often feel like I’m being a bit slow in the uptake until I’ve really understood what I need to do to achieve a good attempt with her.
Ronnie’s a very willing partner so it’s a lot of fun exploring this together. We’ve got much to work on (Arran’s goal to us is to nail trot piaffe steps by the summer). Bit of an ask maybe but we have some very specific exercises to do both individually and linking them together to help prepare for it. The approach feels logical and reassuringly like a learning pyramid.
It’s exciting to see and feel the changes happening but we’re still taking it slowly as she needs to gain more physical tone and we both have to get our brains around the exercises so that it can become simpler to attempt.
Whilst she didn’t keep total straightness in her body down the long side of the arena and I was feeling my way thru the exercise so was a bit awkward at times, we did manage to get a bit of harmony together and Ronnie started to spring up with her hind legs and do a couple of energised steps which gave a glimpse of the way ahead. Big smile for me and a good handful of treats for her to finish with.
Must write up my training notes now, so I have something to remind me of what it felt like when it got better, and the things to look out for so the quality of work can be kept at a good level.
