Paws Outdoors, Bridgwater

Paws Outdoors, Bridgwater Dog Walking Services I went on to rescue and rehabilitate wild seals at a seal sanctuary in Lincolnshire and train sealions at a zoological park in North Devon.

I grew up in Surrey and moved away when I was nineteen to go to De Montfort University in Lincolnshire, graduating in 2002 with a BSc (Honours) First Class degree in Animal Science (Behaviour). In my late twenties I swapped my animal career for a career in finance, ending up in Bridgwater working as a Management Accountant for EDF Energy for over ten years. Another decade on and another life chang

ing decision - to step away from the rat race and focus on job satisfaction (full circle really!) - and so I set up my own dog walking business, Paws Outdoors, in 2021. I have even been back to college to complete an Introduction to Canine Behaviour course and a Canine First Aid course. Over a year on and it's the best decision I ever made - spending my days with our amazing Staffordshire Bull Terrier Hugo and all of the wonderful dogs that are now part of the Paws Outdoors family. I cannot help but smile when I watch them running and playing in the fields and streams in and around our wonderful town. Thank you to all my wonderful clients and their dogs for making Paws Outdoors what it is today and to my amazing friends and family for giving me the courage to follow my dreams :)

I’ve just sent out some holiday dates to my clients and it got me thinking - with holiday season approaching where do your dogs go when you’re on holiday?

If you are paying for a ‘professional’ service do they have a boarding license? If they don’t then any insurance they hold will be invalid. What happens if your dog needs veterinary care while you’re away and there is no insurance through the boarder. Will they pay out of their own pocket or will your dog potentially not receive the care they need? It sounds dramatic but it’s something to consider.

Home boarding is a licensed activity. And the T&Cs of that licence include to display the licence number all advertising including pages.

Family and friends operating on a non-commercial basis and pet sitting in the dog’s home do not require licensing.

As soon as we were back to work after the Christmas break I kicked my brain into gear to continue my Canine Behaviour and Training course 📜

Huge thanks to Bridgwater & Taunton College and Jo Williams at Paws4Teaching for an amazing few weeks. Lots of behavioural and learning theory and several real life case studies each week analysing the behavioural challenges our dogs can exhibit while trying to fit into our 21st century lives 🐾

From today we have a new parking system at Great Wood. Our new system uses automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology and will allow us to operate more efficiently.

You’ll still pay for your parking when you arrive, but you don’t need to display a ticket anymore as your vehicle registration will be captured on your way in and out of the car park. The machines can accept payment by card or contactless, no need for apps or phone signal.

Forestry England members, please make sure your vehicle registrations are up to date in your online account as we aren’t checking your window sticker anymore https://boxoffice.forestryengland.uk/ClientRequiredFallback.aspx?view=Login&next=~%2fCrmDetails.aspx

The money from your car parking charge is essential for us to maintain visitor facilities, such as walking, toilets, and the car park. Thank you for your ongoing support

You know it’s wet and muddy out there when all your towels are in the wash (even the emergency ones 🤪) and it’s only Wednesday 🤦‍♀️🤣

Still it could be worse - two years ago it was like this from September to March! 🫣🙃
