🦷🐾 Patient Spotlight - Lottie 🩺🦷

Meet Lottie, an adorable 18-week-old Labrador who came in after her owner noticed she had smelly breath. Labs are known for getting into mischief... but this time it was simply teething!

She's just starting to lose her baby teeth, which can sometimes cause a bit of an odour as the gums change and new teeth come through. Totally normal - but definitely worth checking, just like Lottie's owner did. 💚

During her visit, Elyse, one of our amazing nurses, chatted about tooth brushing, how to introduce it slowly, and the best ways to keep those growing teeth healthy for life. Starting young is the perfect way to build good habits!

Well done, Lottie - you were such a good girl for your check-up! 🐶✨

To help us service you and your pets more efficiently, we kindly ask for at least 72 hours’ notice for all medication orders and written prescription requests.

However, wherever possible, we would greatly appreciate a weeks’ notice for written prescriptions requests. This allows us time to process the request, obtain the necessary approvals, and ensure it reaches the pharmacy without delays.

Please also provide your order number from your chosen online pharmacy when submitting your request – this is essential for us to process it correctly.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Your pet’s health is our top priority, and these steps help us make sure they receive their medication on time. 🐾

🍂❄ Autumn & Winter Tips for Small Furries ❄🍂

As the weather gets colder, our rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pets need a bit of extra care. Here are a few quick safety tips:

🏡 Keep them Warm:
- Make sure hutches are insulated, dry and protected from wind and rain. Bring them into a shed/garage (no cars) in very cold weather.

🍽 Extra Hay & Fresh Water:
- They burn more energy in the cold. Check water bottles regularly so they haven't frozen.

🛏 Stay Dry:
- Damp bedding can make them unwell. Replace any wet areas promptly.

🐾 Safe Exercise:
- Offer sheltered or indoor playtime if the ground is wet or icy.

🩺 Keep an Eye on Health:
- If they're quieter than normal, eating less or losing weight, give us a call for advice.

🐾🌟 Patient Spotlight - Ernie 🌟🐾

Meet Ernie. He's a brave 6-month old kitten who recently came in for an emergency appointment after his owner notices he was retching and gagging, as though something was stuck in his throat. 😿

After giving Ernie a sedation to investigate, we discovered a large chicken bone wedged across the back of his mouth! Thankfully, we were able to remove it safely and he's made a full recovery with his symptoms quickly improving. 💚

Ernie's owner believes the bones may have been dumped by their garden - a good reminder to be cautious of what curious kittens might find while out exploring! 🐱🦴

We're so glad Ernie's back to his happy, playful self again. 🐾

💙🐾 World Diabetes Day - 14th November 🐾💙

Today we're raising awareness for diabetes in pets - a condition that, just like in humans, needs careful management and lifelong monitoring.

Dogs and cats can develop diabetes, especially as they get older or become overweight. Common signs to watch for include:
💧 Increased thirst and urination
🍽 Increased hunger but weight loss
😴 Low energy or lethargy
👁 Cloudy eyes (in dogs)

With the right care, diet, and regular check-ups, diabetic pets can still live happy, healthy lives. 💚

⏰ Missed Appointments in October - Please Help Us Help More Pets 🐾

In October, we had 43 missed appointments, totalling 10.75 hours of lost vet and nurse time. That's valuable time that could have been used to treat other pets who needed care. 💔

We absolutely understand that things come up and plans change - but if you're unable to attend, please give us a call as soon as possible so we can offer that slot to another pet in need.

🔔 Please Note: If an appointment is missed without notice, we require a deposit to secure your next booking. This helps us reduce missed slots and make the best use of our clinical team's time.

🍁🐾 Autumn Pet Hazards - Keep Your Pets Safe This Season 🐾🍁

As the leaves fall and the nights draw in, autumn brings new sights, smells... and a few sneaky hazards for our furry friends! 👀

Here are a few things to watch out for this season:

🌰 Conkers & Acorns - fun to play with but toxic if eaten.
🍄 Mushrooms & Toadstools - some can be poisonous to pets.
❄️ Antifreeze - even small amounts are deadly to cats and dogs.
🍫 Seasonal snacks - chocolate and sweet treats are best kept well out of reach!
🔥 Bonfires & candles - keep curious paws and whiskers at a safe distance.

If you think your pet may have eaten something they shouldn't, or isn't acting themselves, please call us straight away for advise. 💚

Let's keep autumn safe, warm and full of tail wags (and maybe a few muddy walks!) 🍂🐕🐾

The sky's lighting up tonight - and while we're enjoying the fireworks and sparklers, remember our furry friends might not be quite as impressed! 👀💥
