This clever pup is working on building a clear, still indication — that moment where they freeze to show they’ve found the target scent 👃🐾

We’re using a large tin for this exercise. Why?
🔹 It gives a bigger surface area to reward at the right moment
🔹 It helps reduce frustration by making the target easier to locate
🔹 And most importantly for this dog — it prevents him from getting his teeth around the target object! 😅

Every dog is different, so I adjust the setup to help them succeed. In this case, we’re working on rewarding calm stillness rather than pawing or mouthing the scent source.

Solid indications are key for reliable scent work — and it’s so rewarding to see them progress!

🐾 Today is Day! 🐾

If you see a dog wearing a yellow lead, harness, or bandana, it’s a sign that they need extra space. This could be for many reasons – they may be nervous around people or other dogs, recovering from surgery, or simply finding the world a bit overwhelming.

Being aware and respectful of these dogs helps make walks safer and more enjoyable for everyone. If you spot a dog in yellow, give them space and let them enjoy their walk without pressure. 💛

Had a great 1-2-1 session today with two of my favourite boys!

Their family wanted to focus on some Gundog-style exercises, so we worked on steadiness—on the place board, during heelwork, and around tempting distractions on the floor.

One big win was helping them hold position while their handlers walked behind them—one of them went from turning almost straight away to staying put even as a treat was placed on the floor!

We also had fun working on directional cues, sending them away from their handlers in different directions.

Looking forward to our next session where we’ll build on these skills and up the difficulty even more!
