🌟 Patient Spotlight: Milo 🌟

Meet Milo, our brave and handsome patient who recently faced multiple episodes of urinary obstructions that required emergency surgery to divert his urine through a stoma. During his hospital stay, Milo charmed us all with his sweet nature and love for tummy rubs, even after undergoing major surgery. He truly is the best boy! 💙

Thanks to the dedication of our team and Milo’s incredible resilience, he’s now back to living his best—and most regal—life! 👑🐾 We were excited to receive updates from his dedicated owners that normality has resumed for Milo and he was happy to pose for some photos to prove it!

If you’d like to learn more about preventing urinary issues in cats, feel free to reach out—we’re here to help! 🐾💌

Post 3: Dexter & Gizmo’s BOAS Surgery Success
The final episode in our 3-part series to raise awareness around Brachycephalic Airway Obstructive Syndrome.

Meet Dexter and Gizmo—two adorable brachycephalic dogs who recently underwent surgery for Brachycephalic Airway Obstructive Syndrome (BOAS) at our practice. 🏥

Before surgery, Dexter struggled with exercise intolerance, coughing and regurgitation, while Gizmo was so severely affected that he was significantly underweight. After their procedures, both pups have shown significant improvements! Dexter’s breathing has become much easier, and Gizmo can now play and exercise without tiring so quickly.

We’re thrilled to see them feeling better and living more comfortably! If your pet shows signs of BOAS, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for an assessment and possible treatment options. 🐾

Meet Georgina Brown - Clinical Director & Kennel Club Respiratory Function Grading Assessor
Part 2 of our 3-part series to help understanding around this condition

We’re proud to have Georgina Brown, our Clinical Director, who is also a certified Respiratory Function Grading (RFG) Assessor for the Kennel Club. The RFG Scheme is an essential tool for assessing the respiratory function of brachycephalic dogs and helping breeders make informed choices to improve the health of their litters.

As a trained assessor, Georgina ensures that brachycephalic dogs are evaluated for airway issues before breeding, reducing the risk of BOAS in future generations. This proactive approach is key in promoting better respiratory health for these beloved breeds. This assessment can also help guide decisions for medical or surgical intervention of clinically affects pets.

We’re here to support pet owners and breeders in making informed decisions for healthier, happier pets. 🐕

Understanding Brachycephalic Airway Obstructive Syndrome (BOAS)
Part 1 of our 3-part series to help understanding around this condition

Brachycephalic breeds (such as Bulldogs, Pugs, and French Bulldogs) are prone to Brachycephalic Airway Obstructive Syndrome (BOAS), a condition that affects their breathing. 🐾

Common symptoms include:

• Loud or laboured breathing and snoring
• Difficulty exercising or intolerance to heat
• Sleep disorders
• Regurgitation
• Bluish gums or tongue (a sign of oxygen deprivation) and fainting episodes

If you notice any of these signs in your pet, it’s important to consult with us for an evaluation. Early intervention can make a world of difference in managing the condition and improving your pet’s quality of life. 🩺

Vaccinations! They're an important part of your pets routine healthcare.

Why do we vaccinate?
To protect your pet, to protect yourself and to protect our community.

What do we routinely vaccinate against?
Dogs: Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis, Kennel Cough
Cats: (varying on indoor/outdoor cats) Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleucopenia, Leukaemia
We will advise you on which vaccines are appropriate for your pet each year to make sure they always get what they need!

All of these are viruses which can cause serious and even life-threatening diseases in your pet.

What happens in a vaccination appointment?
Your pet will receive a full clinical examination with one of our vets. It’s a great opportunity to ask any questions you might have about your pet and their health!

We can also discuss a flea and worm treatment plan for your pet and make sure you can pick up more treatment for them for the rest of the year.

To chat to our team and check when your pets vaccine is due please call Brighton on 01273 540430, or Peacehaven on 01273 583252
