I'm signing off for the weekend 👋🏼

Me and my summer asthma pony are off to Nationals at swalcliffeparkequestrian with our riding club.

He's supported solely on salt therapy to help his lung performance and manage his pollen allergy. Never did I think I'd get this lummox round a XC but thankfully here we are 🤗.

☀️🐴 Hot Horsey Days! 🐴☀️

It’s melting weather out there, so let’s keep our four-legged friends (and ourselves!) cool and comfy:

💧 Water, water, water – Horses need lots of it! Maybe add electrolytes to sloppy feeds to encourage them to drink more.

🌳 Shade is golden – Trees, shelters, or a shady stable work wonders.

💦 Cool showers – Hose or sponge them off with cool water.

⏰ Ride early or late – Midday heat is a no-go. Unless you fancy a sauna in the saddle…

⚠️ Watch for heat stress – Heavy breathing, no sweat (literally), or just looking off — call the vet if in doubt.

And for us humans? A cold drink, some shade, and maybe a nice glass of wine 🍷 while the horses chill with their fly masks on.

Stay cool, both two- and four-legged friends! 😎🐎

Dazzle’s Salt Therapy Session 🧂🐴

This involves gently circulating fine salt particles into her stable, allowing her to breathe in the natural minerals and let them work their magic. Not only does it help support her respiratory health, but it also gave her coat a lovely shine and left her feeling relaxed.

While she didn’t quite nod off, her owner shared that this was actually quite chilled for Dazzle —a big shift from her usual spirited personality! 🧘‍♀️

✨ Before & After – Salt Therapy Success! ✨

This lovely boy was itchy, sore, and uncomfortable, with open patches, bald areas, and skin that was hot to the touch—particularly over his saddle area, which was so inflamed he couldn’t be ridden. 😢

After a course of Equine Salt Therapy, just look at the difference! 🙌
🌿 The skin is now cool and calm
🌱 Hair growth has returned
🐎 He’s feeling much more comfortable—and is now able to be ridden again!

That said, we’re still on the journey. As you can imagine, he still itches from time to time—these behaviours don’t disappear overnight. Once itching becomes a habit, it takes time and patience to fully settle… a bit like asking us to go without our phones for an hour! 😅📵

Salt therapy has been a big step in the right direction, and we’re so pleased with his progress so far.
