So many things to consider, your lifestyle? Your routine? Your needs? And of course, what you can offer your new lil pal 🐾

What, the energetic class clown 🤡 , who takes forever to ‘grow up’ 👶 , generally crazy 🌪️ , who loves to be with you 👋 , and gives the best cuddles going 🤗 , particularly because they do not understand personal space 😬 ??

Suits my very active loving life for sure. 😍

We don’t learn good behaviours through fear. We simply learn how to avoid consequences and to appease.

Fear in our dogs is not always taken seriously, with so many videos floating round social media that get a few laughs.

We wouldn’t laugh if a child cowered in fear. We would take action, show concern and the same should go for our dogs.

We have the power to motivate, provide clarity and guide. We should never waste that on scare tactics or intimidation.

Here’s Doris the Boxer with her (BIG) sister Delilah the horse! 💕
I was soooo careful to introduce these two darlings….
I was so conscious to go at Doris’ pace, keeping a good ol’ distance at first and taking it really slow. What’s the rush? 🐌
Not just to stop good old sista quarrels (you hear me siblings!) 💁‍♀️
but also to avoid over-phasing Doris, or for her to learn any unwanted habits, it’s never worth the risk. 🚫
I just wanted to encourage her in a positive way for good old ✨ bonds ✨ all round.
And look at these angels now- they are faaaabulous together. 👼
I am a very lucky girl to have this sistaaa crew 👯‍♀️🥰

Anyone else missing the long summer days vs these grey short ones? Those crisp mornings are pretty delightful though eh? 🍁
Still forever love walking my girl and I often have her on a👉long line👈 (which some of you with keen eyes may have spotted). 🤓🥾
I want to make sure she makes the appropriate decisions and being a young Boxer, sometimes that goes completely out the windowwww (who can blame the girl, that’s her breed and why I love her) 💃🫣
Some see this as a ‘fail’, but for me you’re class by helping your hound out and if anything, only making things better. 👊
The way I see it, when you’re learning to drive, you have the autonomy and freedom, BUT, that instructor has pedals - a brake…just in case. Makes total sense right? I know I’d want to be kept safe and definitely wouldn’t want my confidence knocked (and the instructors for that matter). 😵
Ehhhhh, go onnnn, if your dogs not got a 100% recall, or if you’re in a new or busy area, why not give it a whirl?
Get that pup set up for success, practising the behaviours you want - yep, I’m going to say it, build that bond 💫 & help make that absolute confident babe 👌😍

I’ve been fostering this gorgeous boy ❤️
When he first came home, he was a ‘barker’.
This is often seen as an issue, when all the fella is doing is communicating (having poodle in him, he loves a chat). 📞
In this case, it was actually him trying to cope and to tell me that he didn’t yet feel safe alone (can’t blame the chap, all new and strange).
With some adaptation and going at his pace, it meant we built that (you know it) bond and trust💫 , and then boy, did this guy flourish 🌸
I don’t know about you, but I try to listen to my friends, as they may be trying to tell me something and if not, I definitely don’t penalise them for talking - I’d be a ‘barker’ for sure, I blumin’ love a natter 💕 ☕️

Well obviously my next introduction has to be my partner in crime - Doris 🐾
At Helping Hounds, we’re all about the ✨bond✨
She has her quirks and by no means is ‘perfect’ (who is?)
But down to our trust, she always tries for me & this little sweet (crazy) pie is for sure my number one hun 💕
What more could a girl want?!

Hello!

Very exciting - my first post!! Eeeek!

Who knows what to write in these things eh?

BUT, here I go….

So, Helping Hounds is all about good ol’ fun & positive dog training.

I’m Lydia and I am in brilliant Bristol!

I have been working with the lovely & wonderful Michelle Cleary under Cleary Canines, but she is now off on a new (amazing) adventure!

She has kindly handed over to me, which I am flattered and thrilled about!!!
