We have a lovely little old lady looking for somewhere soft to land for her retirement years🖤🤍
Daisy was brought into the vets as a stray; she's chipped but her details aren't up to date and her original owner, in Wales, can't have her back. No owner this side of the bridge has shown up sadly.

She'll be 17 in March and is looking for a quiet home where she can stretch, relax and sleep. She loves a cuddle and will sit for hours either on your lap or next to you on the sofa. As she is an older lady she has some arthritis in her back legs, for which she has daily Metacam. This means she can be a bit hesitant jumping onto furniture and she has to climb the stairs slowly! She has a loud purr and will give you lots of headbutts, she also enjoys being groomed. Daisy would prefer a home without other cats or children and is perfectly happy indoors. Perhaps someone who is retired or spends a lot of time at home to spoil her lots!

Neutered, chipped, vaccinated with 5 weeks free insurance (which our insurers will continue), she has a clean bill of health apart from those lil ole creaky joints - BWCR can help with the cost of Metacam if necessary.

Mail us at [email protected] with your address and a contact number if our pretty little flower can crash at your place :)

Indoor home needed for two shybabies 🖤🤍🩶

Mittens (Black/ white male 6y.o) and Dakota (Grey tabby female, 7yo)

This lovely pair were brought into foster when their owner sadly passed away. They've always been indoor cats so have been used to one home and human for all their lives and have found the experience just a tad overwhelming.

They would be best suited to a quiet home, with no young children and patience is the key with these two - it's best they're adopted with someone who can give them time to settle and continue their socialisation rather than them get too settled in foster only to be moved again.

Remember the three rule ✅️

3 days to decompress.
3 weeks to learn new routines.
3 months to really feel at home ❤️

They're very close and are always together so we won't split them.

Mittens has managed to settle in a little quicker. He will come out for some attention and occasionally sits on my lap and when he has had enough he will go back to his spot behind the settee. He’s not too interested in cat treats, however, he is very interested in my plants! He might appreciate some cat grass :)

Dakota has taken a little longer to settle in. She is much more wary and likes to watch from a distance. She will come to you for head scratches but only in short bursts. She prefers being on her own and doesn’t like a fuss... yet. She does love a cat treat and is happy when they are on offer so that's definitely the way to her heart. She doesn't like being picked up!

Neutered, chipped, vaccinated with 5 weeks free insurance.
If you can offer them their safe haven please mail us at [email protected] with your address and a contact number :)

Ugh is it Monday already mum?

'Fraid so Henry!

Meet our latest recruit: Henry is only 20 months old, has already had about 5 homes and, sadly, hasn't a clue what to do with toys - we don't think he's ever had one before :(

He was advertised on Gumtree so we stepped in to make sure he was safe - we'll soon have him smiling 😁

Devoted sisters 🖤🧡🤍

Kat is extremely friendly, outgoing, brave and adapts very quickly to new environments. She's so curious about everything! She's very cuddly and appreciates regular stroking and attention every few hours please. You'll need to be careful as she'll sneak through your legs and make a run for it if she sees an opportunity. She turns into a pocket rocket bouncing off walls about twice a day, especially in the evenings around 10pm! She's very cool and loves to be involved, enthusiastically sniffing and getting to know everything and everyone.
Kat helps bring Cleo out of her shell, but you'll need to be careful she doesn't overshadow Cleo as she is naturally more dominant and much more of an extrovert.

Cleo is a beautiful girlie, also very affectionate, has the loudest purr but she's quite timid to begin with. There's an initial trust building period - she was very shy and scared when she arrived and spent about 2 weeks under the bed. After lots of mutual slow blinking and conversation she suddenly jumped on my bed while I was in it and if I didn't move at all she'd stay but kept her distance. She soon became less jumpy though and, one evening, she fell asleep on me. In the morning I woke up to both Cleo and Kat staring at me and she's been fine ever since.
It's been wonderful watching her come out of her shell, realise she's safe and start to explore, play and pocket rocket together with her best friend!

About 7 months, they must stay together and Cleo will need time to settle. They'd love a garden away from busy roads/catio to keep them safe.

Neutered, chipped, vaccinated with 5 weeks free insurance.

Two tortie pocket rockets? Sounds like the most wonderful chaos! Please mail us at [email protected] with your address and a contact number if you're up for it 🤣

Happy Caturday from expat cat Molly now living in Spain (nope, not jealous at all 🤣).

It is now just over a year since we sold our home in Weston super Mare and moved lock stock and barrel to Spain. Sadly, as you know we lost our beautiful boy Harry after 7 years of absolute joy but Molly still soldiers on and we couldn't leave England without bringing her with us and boy did she handle it well!
After transport by specialist carrier, a month in a cattery that wasn't the best and then being confined indoors at our apartment in Mojácar we eventually moved into our forever home in Almeria at the end of March 2024, Molly loved it from day one, we have an 1800sq.mtr walled garden where she can play in the sunshine, even at this time of year it's about 15°-19° during the day but turns quite cold at night. She has 24 hour access via a cat flap in the kitchen door and comes and goes as she pleases. Molly is a very content little girl, now 13 years old she shows little sign of her advancing years (but does sleep a lot!).
We are so proud of the way she has adapted to her new lifestyle, even in the summer when the temperature was hovering around 40° she found the coolest places and just coped with it, she is a beautiful p***y cat..
Here she is, in the summer, sitting on the Pool Terrace.

And today, relaxing on the sofa because it's a bit cold outside!

It's thanks to Bristol & Wales Cat Rescue 12 years ago that we have our special little girl, so thank you. I just wanted to let you know that Molly is loving life here in Spain along with us!

We wish you all a Happy New Year,

With best wishes from Mike, Ann and Molly in Almeria, Spain.

Meet Mr. Jinks – A Cat with a Personality All His Own! 🖤🤍

Mr. Jinks might give you a grumpy look now and then, but it’s all part of his charm that will make you laugh! This cheeky fellow knows exactly what he likes: stick toys to chase, cheek rubs, and just enough food to satisfy him (although most of his belly consists of the primordial pouch, which gets bigger with age, it could still do with a little slimming). He’s not one for constant cuddles, but when he’s in the mood, you’ll know it. He even has a soft spot for bathroom bonding time! Despite his age, he’s still sharp as a tack and loves a good interactive toy. Clicker training could be a fun way to keep his mind busy.
He's also quite the conversationalist, offering a cheerful chirp when he’s happy or dreaming, and a short, sassy meow when he’s not impressed or wants something. Whether he’s chatting or making a point, Mr. Jinks definitely knows how to communicate!

Having always been an outdoor cat, Mr. Jinks loves time outside, so he’ll thrive in a home away from busy roads where he can roam and explore. He could even be a great barn cat; he definitely would love chasing mice.. Independent as ever, he enjoys his freedom but is more than happy to return indoors for some company. He’s not a fan of the carrier (expect a bit of drama there, and he may need sedation for vet trips), so his new owner will need a patient, understanding approach—but the effort will be well worth it!
Mr. Jinks isn’t one to demand constant attention, but when he chooses to spend time with you, it’s a real treat. You’ll feel extra loved when he joins you, whether it’s for a bit of playtime, chilling in the same room, or snuggling up in bed at night. He’s content a lot of the time doing his own thing, but when he’s around, you’ll be the special person he trusts to give him the retirement years he truly deserves.

10 yrs, neutered, chipped, had first vaccination plus 5 weeks free insurance.

If you like your cats with a bit of sass and character then mail us at [email protected] with your address and a contact number :)

Our stray boy who came in just before Christmas is looking mighty fine and winning admirers at the vets 💗, not sure it's reciprocated but he's just so glad he's not out in the cold any longer.

Simba is currently on steroids as they think he has a touch of asthma, hopefully he'll be ready for a new home soon :)

Our final two shop kittens are.....Mischief and Myrtle 🖤🤍

"4 months old, they're lovely sisters from a litter of 6 born outside, but in foster since being caught at 5/6 weeks. They are still a bit nervous and just need more time.
Mischief is a gentle girl, playful and curious. She will let you smooth her from neck to tail.
Myrtle is still more wary, a quiet pretty little girl, she can be smoothed while licking Lick e lix so it won't take her too long to gain in confidence.
They need their very own hoomans to bond with now - the shy ones tend to become superattached Velcro kitties!

They'll need a quieter home and a garden away from busy roads/catio to keep them safe. An existing friendly puss to take them under their wing would be most acceptable too."

Neutered, chipped, vaccinated with 5 weeks free insurance.

Calorie-free M and Ms - just what you need after all that Christmas chocolate! Drop us an email to [email protected] with your address and a contact number, thank you :)

And the next two shop kittens are....Peanut and Taz 🖤🤍🧡

"Peanut and Taz are about 4 months old now after being born outside and caught at 5/6 weeks and in foster since. They are lovely kittens, playful, cheeky and clever - such fun to watch! They love playing with toys, wrestling one another, chasing and playing fish games on phones. They chatter to each other - so cute ☺️
Peanut loves fusses, can be picked up and purrs when I speak to her, she’s just a little darling. Taz is a character! He will allow fussing from neck to tail and can be picked up but wants to get on with playing. he just needs more time than Peanut did.
They need their very own human parents to trust, bond with and progress further plus a friendly puss might help too."

They'll need a garden away from busy roads/catio to keep them safe.
Neutered, chipped, vaccinated with 5 weeks free insurance.

If you're nuts about these two please mail us at [email protected] with your address and a contact number, thank you :)

Our kittens found living behind a shop are ready for rehoming ❤️

Mum did a great job of feeding her 6 tinies and keeping them safe but they needed trapping and were very scared when they arrived in foster. Mum has found herself a home with her fostermum and her first kittens needing a home are Milo and Nermal.

Oh so cute and must stay together, they still need more socialisation - Nermal is still very shy, but is getting better every day, Milo is a little more outgoing. They love to cuddle up together on their radiator bed and really enjoy playing with feather teasers. They love lick e lix treats and it's easy to stroke them then so that's definitely the way to their hearts.
They would also benefit from a friendly existing puss to show them the ropes and some patient hoomans who are up for a little challenge. The rewards are huge though - nothing beats that first purr, that first snuggle!

They'll need a garden away from busy roads/catio to keep the safe.

About 4 months old, neutered, chipped, vaccinated with 5 weeks free insurance.

We also have Maddie now ready for her next big adventure 🖤🤎🩶

She's the mum of Hazel and was very scared when she first arrived but has relaxed considerably and now loves her strokes and a fuss made of her. She'll need a quieter home with people happy to give her time to settle but she absolutely loves to play with toys so that will be the way to her heart! She's only young, about 2 years, so just a big kitten herself now she's not having litter after litter.
We're not sure what she's like with other cats so probably best as an only and she deserves to be someone's special Princess now after living on the streets.

She'll need a garden away from busy roads/catio to keep her safe.

Neutered, chipped, vaccinated with 5 weeks free insurance.
If you're mad for Maddie please drop us a line at [email protected] with your address and a contact number, thank you :)

Adopted :)
Happy Caturday from Hazel 🧡🖤

This little beauty was born in a garden to a semiferal mum and she's still very nervous. She's happy to have strokes and a bit of a fuss now but what she really needs is another young, friendly cat to play and snuggle with. The best way for her to trust those scary hoomans is to see another cat interacting happily with them. Sadly her sibling was killed on the road so she's been a singleton for a few weeks now and skittish mum isn't helping!!

She's about 14 weeks and would like a garden away from busy roads/catio to keep her safe.
Chipped, vaccinated plus 5 weeks free insurance.

Frustratingly the owner has passed Billie to another rescue without informing us so she's no longer available via BWCR - apologies to anyone who has applied for her.

Meet Billie - our first little puss of 2025 looking for new digs ❤️

She's a bright little girlie and likes lots of attention from her hoomans but not from her sister unfortunately- they've starting fighting like cat and...cat. There's probably some frustration in there as her owner's circumstances have changed and she can't spend enough time with Billie anymore. Billie is very curious and likes to join in so could probably cope with a busy household, although maybe not with very young children and definitely no other cats! She likes to sit on laps and is still pretty playful at 7 yrs old.
Basically she just wants lots of love and cuddles and is a total sweetie with not an ounce of tortietude in sight 😁

She'd love a garden away from busy roads to keep her safe and is neutered and chipped.
She's currently still with her owner to save the stress of a move into foster so ping us an email to [email protected] with your address and contact number if Billie the kit is the one for you :)

Our second newbie on our sponsor cat scheme ❤️

Some of you may remember Callie arriving with her 6 newborn kittens early last year.

She was living in a garden in Wales and gave birth in a woodpile; our Welsh ladies managed to trap her, and her kittens were the cleanest, whitest babies we'd ever seen, she was such a good mum.
They all went off to lovely new homes but, sadly, Callie was pretty much feral and unhandleable so she came to live with all my other misfits and broken biscuits.
She loves other cats and immediately attached herself to Millie and followed her absolutely everywhere. Luckily Millie was really patient with her and is also a real lap cat so Callie soon realised that this hooman wasn't too bad.

After about 6 months she eventually plucked up the courage to sit beside me and yell at me for head scratches. She'll even put one paw( just the one, mind!) on my lap but any sudden movements and she's gone. If I approach her she still runs, if I try and pick her up she panics and she's accidentally caught my face with her claws several times. Vet trips are good fun 😬

So she'll be staying here - she's much too used to home comforts to ever live as a feral mouser and it will be a long time before she's a "normal" pet but hey normal is distinctly overrated right?! 🤣

If anyone would like to sponsor one of our longstayers like Tabitha or Callie, it's just £5 per month and you get updates and photos and a free calendar at Christmas- bargain!!

🎉🎉🎉Happy New Year🎉🎉🎉

2024 was another difficult year for rescues with record numbers of cats being abandoned and surrendered. Our vet bills were topping 10K for a few months so we had to make the difficult decision to have fewer fosterhomes and take in fewer cats as raising that kind of money every month was incredibly stressful and, as it turned out, impossible! Even then our vet bill was still 106K 😬

We've always been non-destruction and take cats that other rescues would euthanise - having a foster-based rescue means we can be flexible and the palliative ones, the aggressive ones, the ferals who have bonded with me ones can all live out their lives happily with us. Last year saw you donate so generously for our new safe outside space, our "catio", which the longtermers (I now have 14 that can't be rehomed for various reasons) absolutely love so thank you ❤️

A second highlight was the formation of another rescue : Feline Fine Foundation, run by the lovely Lucinda. They take short term fosters for people in crisis and it was a huge weight off our shoulders being able to refer many desperate owners to them. Thank you FFF ❤️

We had lots of mums and kittens but no shortage of lovely homes for them all - our final 6 tiddlers are being visited today so should be leaving the building just in time for kitten season 2025 to start!

We made the decision to stop taking ferals as we don't really have the facilities for them nor the homes waiting for them but...we're still trapping on the ground (thank you Kim ❤️) and now work with other rescues who specialise in these type of cats instead. No cat is left without somewhere safe to go.

We've helped with neutering costs and lots (and lots!) of advice so that owners can keep their cats instead of surrendering them.

We rehomed 286 cats this year, but have helped many more indirectly, and we look forward to continuing to work with, and supporting, our friends in other rescues - team work really does make the dream work.

And finally to you lot!
Our volunteers who give so freely of their time and their hearts.
Our supporters who cheer us on, always have our back and donate time and time again so generously.
Our vet teams who put up with us, give us a hefty discount and perform miracles at times.
Our adopters who take on our little waifs and strays and spoil them ridiculously 🤣

Thank you all so much- we couldn't do any of this without you ❤️

We hope you have a healthy and happy 2025 and please enjoy some of the moggies whose lives you helped save this year 😸😸

As if they weren't purrfect enough already ❤️❤️

"Cats may purr when snuggled in your lap, but the soothing rumble isn’t just a signal of happiness.

Research suggests that the vibration is produced by muscles within the larynx, which dilate and constrict the glottis as the cat breathes. This results in a sound with frequencies ranging from 20Hz to 150Hz — known to correspond with therapeutic healing frequencies for bones and tissues in humans. Studies find that bones respond to the pressure of a cat's purr by hardening.

In fact, cats often purr in stressful situations, during recovery, or even when facing death, hinting that the purr may function as a form of self-soothing or physical rejuvenation.
Cats might purr to express nervousness, communicate with other cats, or simply as a way to encourage humans to feed them."
