I highly recommend checking out ABC dogs and their educational graphics. Lots of sound advice that helps us understand our canine friends.

I know some people that have truly social dogs can struggle with this concept as they have no issues with this, and some people judge others by the sociability of their dog.
"They just weren't socialised enough as puppies"
"They need to be more obedient"
"They just need to play more"
"They need to be more dominant when playing"
"They need to just submit"
No, no...and no again.
Just like us, dogs have social preferences and some are very strong.
You may have noticed this with a dog that only likes to play with their own breed, or much smaller dogs. Some dogs are drawn to very specific types of dogs or seek out dogs with a particular physical trait.
Some will just refuse to be social with a particular breed as they may struggle to read that particular breeds body language, and they may even act "aggressively" to that breed when that dog attempts an interaction.
Another thing I would like to point out is.... there is a bit of a myth out there that reactive dogs only belong in the "not social" category. Some reactive dogs can be really social with others, but they could be leash reactive even to dog breeds or types they may enjoy interacting with off lead.
Just because a dog is reactive does NOT automatically mean they dislike all other dogs.
Even reactive dogs have (and are allowed) to have their own unique preferences.

I'm going solo!

I prefer the one on one time with your pups but am still happy to take those from the same household. Now you won't need to come over for "meet and sniff" trials as bookings won't mix (if there are a few hours overlap I'd tend to keep them separate unless they already know each other).

Nightly rate is £40. Those of you who booked mixed boarding with me last year will carry on paying the previous rate for 2024.

My services
A home from home for your four legged family member. I provide a safe and loving environment where you can feel confident all your dog’s needs will be met. I live in Greenbank, Bristol and have ample access to outdoor space in my home as well as the local parks. I have no pets of my own so can devote all my attention to yours. You can relax knowing they are in good hands. I have a licence from Bristol City Council who have inspected my home and assessed that I meet their welfare standards and training requirements. My training is on-going and includes a canine first aid qualification.

I board dogs either on their own or with others from the same household. They must get on and be able to walk together. Your dog(s) will have my time exclusively for the duration of their stay.

Wedding Chaperone- One to one care for your dog(s) throughout your special day and boarding around that date. I can be very flexible and am up for anything that will make their presence memorable for you. Price on request and will vary according to what you need, distance to venue etc.

Booking Process
We will have a chat on the phone to establish if I am potentially the right fit for your dog and if I have availability for the dates of their stay. The next step is for you to come to my home to introduce me to your dog and get an idea of what their holiday might look like. On the same day, if you are happy to proceed, I will then keep your dog for a trial visit of approx two hours to get to know your dog and see how they settle in my home. This will not be charged. This will help me assess whether I can meet their needs and also makes it easier for your dog to adjust to staying with me while they are away from you.

You will then be asked to complete a booking form so I can have all the information I need before and during their stay.

I will not be able to confirm or hold dates until a trial has been completed and a deposit has been paid.

Arrival/Departure
Check in time is anytime after 15:30. Check out time is before 11:00. For first stays allow 20-30 minutes or so to settle them in and possibly a very quick walk to see how their recall is with me.

Cost
£40 per night. Late/early check in/out £10 first four hours, £20 4-8 hours. This will need to be pre booked to secure availability. If your dog has specific special needs (medical or otherwise) please note that additional costs may apply. eg If you require me to take your dog to appointments or if they can’t be left alone for up to two hours etc.

I offer a discount if I am boarding more than one of your dogs. This is likely to be 50% discount for second/third dog but cost will be established at the trial stage.

Deposit- A 50% deposit is required to be paid on acceptance of a booking and the balance payable within 48 hours of a completed booking. Half the deposit is non-refundable with the remainder refunded if the booking is cancelled with at least four weeks notice. No booking is confirmed without an introductory trial being completed and deposit having been paid.

For new guests, and during busy periods, I have a three night minimum stay. There is potential for shorter stays once I know your dog and have availability at short notice.

Practicalities
I want your dog to have a great time with me and enjoy a calm relaxing atmosphere in my home. I intend to walk them, twice a day, in public areas and give them the opportunity to socialise with other dogs unless we have discussed this not being suitable for them. I will allow your dog to run, off lead, if/when it feels safe to do so. We will discuss suitability for this activity prior to their stay. If your dog has poor recall skills but needs to be let off lead for their well being, we can discuss adding in trips to a secure field (at an added cost).

Please bring their regular food. I will have generic dog food available if you prefer. Let me know if they have any food allergies as I will likely give some treats to help with the bonding process. Please bring your dog’s bed and anything else they require i.e. coat, crate, grooming brush, medication etc. I will provide some toys, my identity tags and water/food bowls.

Health
It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure your dog’s vaccinations, flea/tick/lice/worming programmes are up to date and that they have not been exposed to rabies or distemper. You will need to show/forward me a copy of their vaccination record. I reserve the right that in the event that your dog becomes aggressive and bites another dog or human, or is uncontrollable, I will rehome your dog for the duration of its stay at the owner’s expense. If your dog becomes ill during his stay and needs a vet’s attention I will endeavour to visit your own vet. However, if this is not possible, I will take your dog to my local vet. Any charges incurred (non-accidental harm) will be at the owner’s cost on their return.

I have insurance to cover my own public liability and in case of accidental harm to your dog. You are responsible for costs in the event they need treatment for non-accidental harm (such as treating pre-existing conditions or illness during their stay with me).

Exclusions
I am not able to take in any dog registered under the dangerous dogs’ act 1991. If your dog has previously shown any aggression towards other dogs or people I must be informed, prior to booking, so I can assess if I am capable of making the adaptations necessary to ensure the safety of your animal and others. I will need to know, in advance of accepting a booking, if your dog is not house trained or is incontinent.

Owners must inform me if their bitch is due to be in season during her stay as this may mean her booking may need to be adapted where possible. We can discuss measures to ensure her wellbeing and I may need to add visits to a secure field at an extra cost rather than risking taking her out for regular walks.
