UPDATE rescue space found 💪❤️
🆘🆘
Please read & share far & wide 🆘🆘
Berkeley isn’t one of our dogs , but we had a message to the page from a distraught owner who is desperate to find a home for her dog ( Can I just say this lady had to move to America for reasons )
Please read his plight & share far & wide or is there a foster home willing to help him 🙏
Write up from his adopter below 🙏
Berkeley is a smart and wonderful dog ( 5 years ) who is looking for a new home, preferably somewhere rural/with access to a large garden and or on a farm! Berkeley is a four year old rescue dog (five in May), currently in SE London, neutered, and has lived in a home with cats. He learned how to chase flies thanks to the cats, was always willing to share his soft and warm belly with a kitten, but was not too pleased that he had to share treats in the home! He is house trained and will sit by the door when he needs to go out. He loves cheese and will do anything for a high-value treat. We have worked with several trainers and a behaviourist on Berkeley's reactivity and he has come a long way, but does need to be in a home with an experienced family, preferably without children/or with older children. He walks well on lead. He is silly, so gentle with his family/humans he trusts, and has been one of the best things to have happened to me. The decision to rehome him has been really difficult and due to a very difficult set of life changes. We have called him our cow dog/bonsai cow because of his markings, love for grass, and the joy he gets when he is able to run around freely in an open space.
Berkeley would do best in a home with an experienced and confident dog family. Berkeley is a Romanian rescue and is fearful/anxious and can be reactive to other dogs and strangers. This fear based reactivity shows up in barking/lunging and because he is a big dog, this can be frightening to people who do not know him. When walking Berkeley, he is kept closer on lead when there are other dogs/strangers passing. Introductions to other dogs however, when done slowly (and off lead) have resulted in Berkeley having many positive interactions. He used to go to a dog sitter once a week for the day and the sitter had several dogs that Berkeley got along well with. He also stayed over in the dog sitter's home when I travelled, and did well with her two dogs. He does seem to be particularly reactive to some breeds however-Huskies and GSDs. Unfortunately the SE London city environment is not ideal for him and my ex-partner is no longer able to keep caring for him as he is expecting a baby. We're reaching out to all our networks to see if anyone might have friends/family on a farm/in rural UK who may be interested in adopting Berkeley. Berkeley is fiercely loving to his family, loves his treats and doing tricks, and loves cuddling up close to you to sleep.
I have until the 9th of May to try & find him the best home before he goes back to Romania on transport 😢
