GREENER VETERINARY PRACTICE 🌳

As a practice, we are trying our best to become more sustainable and we thought we would share with you how we are doing that!

▪️ Reducing our washing temperatures and washing full loads where possible. 🌡
▪️ When nice weather allows, we are drying bedding on a washing line outside to reduce the running of tumble dryers. ☀️
▪️ Increasing the amount of reusable items like scrub hats for theatre and washable kennel liners. ✅
▪️ Reducing our paper usage and separating recyclable materials better including soft plastics. ♻️
▪️ We are putting more effort into becoming bee-friendly! 🐝 We are growing pollinator friendly plants. 🪻🌷

We would be open to any other suggestions of how to can become greener! 📬

PERIODONTAL DISEASE 🦷

Dental disease is one of the most common health issues seen in veterinary practices, affecting around 80% of dogs and cats over three years old! 😲

Daily brushing at home and regular professional dental cleaning from your vet will help to combat the build up of plaque that builds up under your pets gums. 🪥

If you would like advice on how to get started with brushing your pet's teeth at home, we provide free dental clinics with one of our nurses, Alicia. If this is something your are interested in, don't hesitate to call and book! 📞

HAPPY PANCAKE DAY!

Treat your doggo this pancake day with our canine-friendly pancake recipe. 🥞

All foods should be given in small amounts and check a food item is dog safe before giving it to them! Their next meal can be reduce to make up for the calories of the pancake treat. ⚖️

Remember peanut butter is great for dogs in small amount, but always check it is xylitol-free first. Xylitol is toxic to dogs and some peanut butters contain this sweetener. 🥜

Enjoy! 🩷

WILLOW THE SAUSAGE 🐾

Willow visited us via referral due to a spinal issue. She was assessed by our referral vet Damien Bush and had an MRI to see what was causing her problems.

There were a couple of affected discs which required decompression to stop them pressing on the spinal cord. Willow had the surgery and was hospitalised for pain relief and monitoring. 🩺

She was discharged today with all home instructions needed for the owners to care for her at home. We wish Willow the best on her recovery! The sweetest girl 💜

Contact us on 0117 962 2828 for referral information 📞 Referrals are usually made by your primary practice.

THE GORGEOUS TRIO 😍

These three came into us recently for MRI scans of their brain and spinal cord for Syringomyelia screening. The scans are then sent off to the BVA (British Veterinary Association) for grading. 📨

Syringomyelia can be caused by the skull not being large enough resulting in the brain protruding out the base of the skull. This then interrupts the normal flow of spinal fluid resulting in fluid-filled pockets in the spinal cord. 🧠

PHEROMONES PLUG IN AND SPRAYS ✨

Adaptil and Feliway are used to help calm your pets by emitting synthetic pheromones, these resemble the ones their mother release after birth. This helps by making them feel safe and secure during events like thunderstorms and firework night. 🐾

They generally take around 7 days to take effect, so now is the time to purchase them and start using in the household to prepare for the upcoming fireworks. 💥

💥TIME TO PREPARE FOR FIREWORK SEASON💥

It is important to prepare early for firework season so that your pets get the full effects of any changes you put in place.

Does your pet struggle with fireworks each year? Contact your vet now to put a plan in place to make them less anxious during this period!

Prescription medications are available for those animals that need a little extra support. Please contact us to book an appointment at 0117 962 2828.

How hot is TOO hot?! ☀️

With temperatures due to rise this week, we need to be cautious with taking our furry friends out. 🐶

Dogs are unable to regulate their body temperature like we are, so can easily overheat in extreme weather. 🔥
