NATIONAL WALKING YOUR DOG MONTH 🐕

A dog walk is great for both you and your dog. Getting outdoors allows you to spend some quality time together and strengthen your bond. ❤️

It's also good for you and your dogs physical & mental health. Going for walks in different environments with a variety smells and interactions for your dog and regular exercise will help avoid certain health problems for your dog.

During winter walks your dog could benefit from wearing reflective coats/collars or leads. Also, it is important to avoid gritted footpaths as this can burn their paw pads. 🌳

❄️WINTER WEATHER TIPS FOR YOUR FURRY FRIENDS❄️

🚗 Most antifreeze and de icers contain ethylene glycol which is toxic to both cats and dogs if ingested. Symptoms including vomiting, twitching and seizures. Keep out of reach from your furry friends and avoid walking them in areas its used as this can cause chemical burns.

🐾 Salt and grit can cause irritation and burns to your pets paws. Avoiding roads with grit and washing their paws post walk with warm water will make sure they are clean.

🐱 Cats can sometimes seek warmth from car bonnets/ hot engines so be mindful before setting off that your furry friend is not hiding.

🐇 Make sure your little furries have extra bedding and their hutch is covered to block out the cold. Check their water isn't frozen over ❄️

🧣 Wrap your dogs up warm in coats, reflective jackets and jumpers. Especially your short coated and elderly furry friends as they can be more sensitive to the cold weather.

❗️REMINDER❗️

Before firework season, it is very important to ensure your pet is microchipped and the details are all correct. Also, that the tag on their collar has all your information on. This is in case they are spooked and go missing. 🎆

💥FIREWORK PREPARATION 💥

Here are a few tips on how to prepare your pets for fireworks season!
It is important to be proactive and prepare in advance. Too many changes at once may unsettle your pet. 🐾

If your pet is severely reactive to fireworks and noises, in the short-term, please book in with a vet to find an appropriate medication for their level of fear. Furthermore, in the long-term, you will need to work alongside a behaviourist to formulate a desensitising and counterconditioning plan. 🩺
