Confidence Clinics are available to any pet who may find visiting the vets a stressful experience, and also to those who aren't particularly worried but owners would like their pets to get used to coming to the vets.

Whatever the reason, our nurses will be happy to spend some time helping your fur baby feel as relaxed and reassured as possible when they are with us. The nurse will be on hand with treats, cuddles or just sitting quietly - whatever your pet needs the most! 🥰

We are thrilled to be able to share yet another wonderful story of how pain management injections have helped improve the quality of life for someone else... Woody 😍🥰

Read below for Woody's current journey in relation to his arthritis 🩷

"Woody has been having monthly injections for around 6 months now and we have definitely noticed a difference in him. He’s an old man anyway at the ripe age of 15 but these injections definitely give us a glimpse of a younger man in between doses. We definitely notice when he is getting close to his next one as he slows down significantly and gets a little limp on his back legs. When the medication is effective he is happy, bouncy and full of life. Thank you to the team for suggesting it in the first place and supporting us each month, his quality of life is definitely much higher now."

Bert's story 😍

Next up with his story is the brilliant Bert, who by the looks of things is more than happy to share his journey with everyone 😆 Big thank you to Bert's mum for this lovely piece:

"Bert came to me four years ago when he was two and half. He had come from a family who no longer wanted him, having used him for breeding.

He had not been well looked after and arrived with undeclared and unnoticed health issues and joint problems.

After many appointments with the vet over a couple of years, including a visit to a consultant who was able to give us a definitive diagnosis, it was agreed that so as to keep Bert out of pain and able to live as “normal” a life as possible and have a good quality of life – he would have to have regular pain relief treatment. We tried various brands of pain killers which only gave very temporary relief.

A typical Dachshund, Bert is very active and loves nothing more than rushing around the apartment like a loony, having the zoomies and treating the place like an obstacle course. When the pain relief wore off, he was miserable, moaning and groaning and not wanting to do much certainly not enjoying his daily walks and not wanting to play with other dogs in the park.

We then tried the injection form on a monthly basis and, after a couple of months, he seemed a completely different dog.

Now, he has his injections on a monthly basis. He does what he wants to do and is enjoying life more or less pain free. He loves nothing more than running riot in the park with his friends and exploring the fields and beaches.

He is so used to going to the vet. These injections have certainly worked for Bert. As you can see from the smile on his face (totally natural and not altered in any way) he is a happy dog."

Pain management continued..

😍 Bess' story 😍

The beautiful Bess has been receiving regular pain management injections with us to help her cope with arthritis. Here is her heartwarming story which we're so pleased to be able to share with you 🩷

"Two years ago we thought we were going to loose our lovely girl, retired Hearing Dog Bess, when we woke one morning to find her in a lot of pain. A prompt visit to Portishead Vets for Pets and Nic suggested we try injections for the management of Arthritis. Bess now has these monthly and it has kept her pain free and enabled her to carry on enjoying her spots in the garden. Thank you to all who have spoilt her over the years."

Please keep your eyes peeled for Marlie, who has been missing from her home since last night. Marlie is a house cat, so does not usually go out. She has come from the Newhaven Road area, and whilst she is friendly, she may well be very scared.

Please call us on 01275 815 470 if you think you may have seen Marlie, so we can inform her owners and hopefully get her home safely to her family who are missing her very much.

🩵 We have had some really great success stories regarding pain management when it comes to arthritis in pets, which we will be posting over the next week. We have seen a significant rise in the amount of dogs and cats who are coming for treatment for their arthritis, including osteoarthritis, and the results are too good for us not to share... 🥹

To kick things off, here is Floyd's story which his mum has very kindly let us share with you. Floyd is on a regular pain management specific to cats, which is administered by injection:

"As floyd got older I noticed he was starting to struggle jumping up onto the furniture and he was moving around a little more ginderly than normal. We decided to give the injections a try. Floyd has definitely gained time after being on the injections. As time has gone on we have had to make injections more frequent as they help him so much. I can now tell when he's ready for his next one! He's made it to 18 now and although he's a frail little thing at least he's been more pain free thanks to his regular injections."

Today we'd like to celebrate every single member of our team. Each and every one of them play an integral part in keeping the cogs turning so we can keep our practice functioning daily.

Whether we are keeping on top of orders, reminding clients of treatments that are due, cleaning, holding consultations, monitoring patients or doing surgeries...the list goes on! We all do such different jobs within the surgery, but we all have one goal, which is to keep improving animals' lives 💚

Celebrating Earth Day 🌍🌊🌱

Today is Earth Day, and to help us highlight and remember the importance of protecting our planet, we wanted to share a few ways in which our practice are aiming to be more sustainable:

- We are reducing the amount of leaflets ordered
- Where printing is necessary, we are using grey-scale and double-sided
- Turning lights off in rooms not used
- Dispensing medication in paper bags/boxes
- Using recycling bins
- Using WhatsApp as a method of communication to reduce the need for paper communication

And to remind of us just how beautiful our planet is, here are some incredible views that some of the girls in our team have visited recently in the UK, Wales, Denmark & Iceland 💙💚

A sneak peak behind the scenes! 📸

It's not all that often that anyone gets to see what really goes on behind the face of reception, so we thought we'd let you in on one of our procedures. Here is our vet, Rhiannon and nurse, Lydia hard at work during a dog dental 🦷

In case you're wondering - no - animals aren't as compliant as humans when it comes to dental work! They therefore need to undergo a general anaesthetic to the vets can get a really good look into the mouth to see the health of every tooth, and look out for any infections or teeth that may be causing problems. Being under anaesthetic means heart rate and blood pressure must be closely monitored, which is why we need nurses to ensure a safe and stable state throughout and after ✨

Caitlin and Rhianna had baby cuddles with 2 of 11(!) Springer Spaniel puppies when they came in to be weighed for their first worming treatment 🩵 it's not often we get to smush them at this age 🥰

🎈 We'd like to give a big birthday shout-out to our gorgeous girlie Lottie who turns 7 today! 🥳

We can remember the very first time she was brought in by her lovely mum, who rescued her when she was just 2 years old.

As its such a special occasion, we went back and fished out a picture we snapped of Lottie back in 2019! 😍

🐱 Hypertension (high blood pressure) in cats 🩺

Our lovely Chloe will be running nurse clinics for just £10 on evenings between 5pm and 6:30pm, and one of the main areas she can help in is identifying Hypertension in older cats.

Hypertension in cats is usually "secondary" to other underlying diseases, such as chronic kidney disease, although "primary" hypertension can also be seen in older cats too. Hypertension can often show in symptoms such as:

- Retinal changes: decreased vision, change in size or shape of pupils
- disorientation, dizziness or unsteadiness
- behavioural changes
- lethargy or breathlessness

Signs of Hypertension aren't always visible, and that's why we highly recommend that cats over the age of 7 come once or twice a year for regular blood pressure checks for early detection.

Holly-May's before and afters! 🦷

Check out Holly-May's new pearly white smile! Holly-May is a regular visitor of ours..she merely pops in to say hi! But this time around, she was able to spend the day with us and get lots of love and cuddles during her stay for a scale & polish 😍

**REUNITED!**

We have had a black and white kitten with a brown flea collar brought to the practice this evening. He is roughly 12 weeks old with no microchip. Found in Shirehampton. Please share and help us find his home! Evidence of ownership will be required before handing him over.

Woody is one of our senior gentlemen who regularly has Librela to help manage his arthritis, which is especially helpful during this cold weather! ❄️ It's such a delight to see photos of him running around and having fun! 😍

Beautiful Bella has lost two kilograms on a weight loss journey with Wakefield Vets4Pets – and owner Hayley says she's much more active, playful and affectionate as a result. "She just seems generally less grumpy as well – she probably felt how we do when we've overindulged!"

When Bella came in for her booster vaccination a year ago the team noted that she was overweight and would need to slim down to help her live a long and happy life. Since then the three-year-old house cat has been put on a special diet and she's now lost a third of her weight. Hayley said: "We're incredibly grateful to the team at Vets for Pets. They've given us some great advice and tips to keep the weight down. They are so approachable and we've never felt judged by them."

Head veterinary nurse Jess said: "Bella has been on her weight loss journey for over a year now and she's seen once a month for basically Waggy Weightwatchers as we call it. The owners have stuck with the plan very well and took note of everything we have told them, which is great. A 2kg loss is quite a substantial loss for a cat, so she's done really well."

Ten-month-old Filemon is on the mend after he fell behind a wardrobe and fractured one of his front legs in three places.

He was taken to the specialist orthopaedic team at Vets4Pets Cross Hands in Llanelli by his owners Kasia and Andrzej where he had surgery to repair the bone with implants. The main recovery barriers for Filemon were possible nerve damage, and keeping him quiet long enough to give his bone and wound time to heal – which veterinary nurse Rebecca says is no easy task for a cat owner. She said: "Thankfully, with the help of his diligent owner and plenty of the right medication, Filemon is recovering well and has full range of motion in his leg."

Kasia said: "We'd like to say a massive thank you to the Vets for Pets team for doing an amazing job to get Filemon back on his four legs! After surgery Filemon was in a crate for six weeks which wasn't easy for him being such a young and playful kitten. It's now been two months since the surgery and he's recovering really well. He's enjoying himself again just like before the accident."

Meet Jimmy, thanks to his microchip, he was reunited with his family after 2 years!

In 2021, Jimmy was suspected to be involved in a road traffic accident in which his owners were told he didn't make it. After straying for 2 years, a member of the public brought him into Doncaster Vets4Pets where our team scanned him for a microchip. After a quick call to his owners, our team were able to reunite him with his owners. We do love a happy ending💚

Storm visited Preston Capitol Vets4Pets after she got a stick stuck up her nose on a walk. The team used an otoscope to help find the stick inside her nasal passage. After using general anaesthetic, they used forceps to pull our the stick that was tightly wedged. After the removal, Storm was back to her usual happy self 💚

Daisy visited Vets for Pets Hereford for her annual nail trim. She manages to keep her nails maintained by using a variety of different sized perches. This allows for natural wear to keep them in good shape.
