Meet Callan! 🥰

Callan and his owner deserve a round of applause! 🌟👏🏼

When Callan first came to see us 3 years ago, he was quite worried about being at the vets, and was not happy to be touched 🐾

Since March, he has been coming to see one of our nurses for positive association sessions (where he’s given plenty of treats) 😋

Thanks to his owner’s hard work and dedication, Callan is now very comfortable wearing a muzzle, and is full of excitement when he comes to the vets! 🥳

Today, we were able to give him the second of his two vaccinations, and Callan was so distracted with his treats that he wasn’t even phased! ❤️

We’re so proud of Callan and look forward to seeing him in the new year to keep that positive association going! 🥰

Happy Friday from Margy! 🥰

This lovely bundle of joy is Margy, who is about 3 months old and came to see the nurse today for her second vaccination 🥹

She didn't even flinch for her injection, and she spent the rest of her appointment getting many cuddles! 🥰

We're so pleased to hear she's getting on really well with her older brothers, sleeping next to them and getting groomed by them ❤️

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Christmas Decor Dangers 🎄🎁

There are lots of new things in the house at Christmas for our pets to investigate; decorations, wrapping paper, new toys and lots of boxes to play in 🐾

Unfortunately, some things around the house can pose more risk than others, for example:

🪴 Plants - poinsettias, holly, ivy, mistletoe and lilies can be toxic to pets

🎄Decorations - tinsel can be particularly problematic to our pets if ingested, and baubles that could shatter should be avoided

🔋Batteries and electric cables - particularly dangerous if swallowed or chewed

Visit our website below for more information on what to be mindful of during the festive period 👇

Pet Microchip Scam ⚠️

We want to make everyone aware that there is an email circulating in the UK relating to pet microchips and we urge you to think twice before clicking on any links.

❗️If you receive an email from Petchip Network advising that your pet’s microchip registration has expired and you need to pay for it to be updated – PLEASE IGNORE. THIS IS A SCAM.

❗️The email comes with a link taking you to a page that may show your pet’s name, microchip number and your contact phone number, so it may look very convincing. PLEASE IGNORE.

✅ There is a list of approved microchip databases on the government website: https://www.gov.uk/get-your-dog-cat-microchipped

✅ Typically you would only pay a fee to a microchip company on first registering your pet or if you contact the company to update your details.

It is important to keep your pet’s microchip contact details up-to-date, including if you move address or change phone number/ email address (you will need to contact your microchip provider to do so).

Meet the team 💙

Meet Rosie 🥰

Rosie qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 2019, and since then, as well as being a small animal vet, she has worked briefly in veterinary public health, and also as a bike mechanic and a baker 🍰

She moved back to the UK from Tanzania in June 2023 where she was training Giant African Pouched rats to detect landmines using their sense of smell! 🐀

Rosie is loving living in Bristol again, and has been part of our team for a year now😊 When not in the practice, she can usually be found bikepacking through Wales, wielding a stick of charcoal at life drawing, or enjoying some live music ❤️

She is also the owner of a curious and confident little cat called Joni Mitchell 🐈

We are closed after 14:00 today for our stock take.

Bird avian flu notice 🐓

Have you seen the recent rules that make it a legal requirement for everyone in Great Britain who keeps birds outdoors to register with the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA)?

You can find more details here 👇

https://www.bva.co.uk/media/6059/guidance-for-registration-of-kept-birds-sept-2024.pdf

https://vets.blog.gov.uk/2024/08/22/new-mandatory-bird-registration-what-do-keepers-need-to-know/

The rules apply to poultry and other captive birds including pets and aviary birds 🐓

✖️You do not need to register indoor birds such as budgies, parrots, cockatiels and finches if they are fully housed in a dwelling (your home or another indoor structure) and with no access to the open air

Happy Friday from Kora! 🥰

Kora came to see one of our nurses yesterday for her HPC 6 Month Health Check and she was such a star! 🌟

Isn’t she beautiful? 😻

Kora is always excited to come to the vets, but she can be a little nervous about having her nails trimmed 🐾 Kora did so well yesterday, with lots of gentle encouragement and trusty treat distractions 😋

Congratulations Emily! 🥳

Emily is one of our Registered Veterinary Nurses and we are so proud of her for recently achieving a distinction in her ISFM Certificate in Feline Nursing! 🩷

The certificate has given her a better understanding of feline health, welfare and behaviour, and will help us to improve the care of our many feline patients 🐱

Emily is particularly looking forward to figuring out more ways in which we can reduce your cats’ stress levels during veterinary visits, as well as getting as many cat cuddles as possible 🥰
