Beautiful Longhorn Chillies in the Simpson Seeds Show Tunnel.

Good old Matt from Simpson Seeds comes every year to plant up our show tunnel with 50+ different varieties.

These are rather special we think!

Matt supplies a number of seeds for all sorts of fruit and veg - check out his website here https://www.simpsonsseeds.co.uk/

For those of you that love Upton Cheyney and chillies, you might want to pop along to The Upton Inn on Friday 15th November when the mighty Atomic Buffalo will be rocking the rafters!

The Atomic Buffalo are named after the delicious Jalapeno based snacks and the guitarist/keyboardist is Alex from the Chilli Farm.

It’s not been easy keeping this quiet, but for the last few months we’ve been working on 3 new products!

There have been numerous taste tests, and a fair few tweaks but finally it’s time to reveal the fruit of our labour!

Chilli Jam, Candied Jalapeno and super strong Garlic Habanero Pickle will launch at this years Bath Christmas Market on the 28th November.

They’re gurt lush!

You need them in your life!!

A wet and wild morning on the hill to conclude this years chilli farm tour and tasting season!

Lovely group as always with Lucy winning this mornings ‘Heaviest Jalapeno’ competition with a 57g mega fruit!

It’s been a joy to have shown nearly 200 people around the farm over the past few weeks.

A summarising post will follow. 🙂

The penultimate chilli farm tour of the 2024 season was awesome, with 25 eager victims happy to go on that infamous journey from mild to wild!

We enjoyed sampling green Jalapeno, red Jalapeno, Fruitburst Habanero, Fatalli and 7 Pot Habanero!

That’s a swing of Scoville heat units from 30,000 to 1.2 million!!!

Today’s group learnt all about the troubles we’ve faced growing chillies in this awful weather year.

They heard stories of the chili festivals, Chilli Dave, dices with prison and much much more!

Emma was the winner of todays ‘Heaviest Jalapeno’ although the weight of 57g would suggest the naughty visitors from previous tours have pillaged the largest pods! 😉

After tomorrow, that’s it for another farm tour season and the 2025 tour dates will be announced with the website re-opening voucher sales. 🙂

Hats off to Dan - winner of today’s Heaviest Jalapeno competition with a meaty 64g beauty! Lovely group as always. 🙂

Farm tour 3 of 6 was a belter!

Another 20 victims who lapped up everything we had to throw at them!

Our leader - Chilli McGee - stood in for Matt Simpson as he’s off working hard at a farmers market.

Chilli McGee is of course Louise, the driving force behind the chilli farm!

Today’s winner of the heaviest Jalapeño was Luke with a 65g whopper. Still no where near as large as our current winner - Cerise - who weighed in a 79g monster!

More spicy fun to come tomorrow. :-)

The absence of summer this year has left us in a tricky situation!

The fruits have formed, but the plants are stunted and the yield low.

We desperately need the pods to start ripening before the first hard frost destroys the crop.

In desperation, it looks like we might need to become st*****rs!!!

Yup, the leaves are going to have to come off to allow what’s left of the sun to come and do its job.

You can leave your hat on!

Another hilarious farm tour this morning with 25 crazy chilliheads searching for the buzz!!!

An unbelievably heavy Jalapeño won the ‘I’ve Got A Big One’ competition, with Cerise weighing in a 79g MONSTER Jalapeno! I doubt that will be beaten, but with 4 tours to go, there’s still time!

This was made even better as Cerise’s grandfather used to farm the fields of Upton Cheyney. The certificate went to the right person. 🙂

A beautiful morning where once again, our absolute love of farming chillies was confirmed. 🙂

Lovely chilli farm tour this morning to kick off our October dates.

Not even the bees could stop us enjoying this years fiery fruit!

Congratulations to Andy who won our ‘I’ve Got A Big One’ heaviest Jalapeno competition with a big fat 64g beast of a fruit!

Matt Simpson of Simpson Seeds was on hand as always with his giant wealth of knowledge that allows Chilli Farmer Alex to sit back with the knowledge that no question will ever go unanswered!

Another 25 ‘victims’ to put through the tour and tasting experience tomorrow.

If you’re booked on, don’t forget to eat breakfast and bring Full Fat Milk!
