We rescue and re-home rabbits in Bristol, UK. Please check this page and our website for animals that need new homes. Please consider adopting rather than buying from a shop or breeder. The rescue is based in Patchway, Bristol and we have many foster carers who look after the rabbits in the

ir own homes. This means that our bunnies are socialised, correctly sexed, checked for illnesses and assessed for behaviour and habits. Every time a pet is fostered, another animal in need can take its place. We also offer a bonding service and provide grooming days with all profits going back into the rescue. Join our Facebook advice group, a supportive community of bunny owners: Facebook.com/groups/607468856757849/

How to help:
We rely on our volunteers to keep the rescue running and always appreciate any help offered. Ways you can help include: volunteering (fundraising or cleaning), fostering, donating, adopting, sharing our posts, leaving us a review and spreading the word. Please contact us for more information

RABBIT WELFARE WEEK: Healthy Diet, Happy Bunnies!
(Day 3)

Your rabbits’ diet of 85-90% high quality feeding hay or fresh grass can be supplemented with nuggets and fresh greens.
Here are some examples of safe and unsafe greens and herbs!

All house plants should be kept away from your bunnies as part of bunny-proofing your home, including shop-bought flowers which contain pesticides and preservatives that can be harmful to rabbits.

RABBIT AWARENESS WEEK: Healthy Diet, Happy Bunnies!
(Day 2)

Choosing the best rabbit food for your bunnies can seem confusing. They are complex animals that need a balanced diet with the right mix of fibre, vitamins and minerals to stay happy and healthy.

They are herbivores, this means rabbits need a plant-based diet with lots of fibre. Fibre is a key part of their diet and it keeps your rabbits’ digestive system healthy and moving, helping to prevent illnesses such as gut stasis.
An easy way to get lots of great fibre in their diet is to make sure your rabbits have unlimited access to good quality, dust extracted feeding hay or fresh grass.

Don't forget to monitor your bun's weight. Weighing them regularly helps you to keep an eye on their overall health.
If you have any concerns about your rabbit’s weight, or if your rabbit is not eating, seek the advice of a rabbit savvy vet.

Pellets should only make up around 5% of your bunny's daily diet (we recommend Burgess Excel or Science Selective), and sugary treats including fruit should be very occasional, not every day!

The 2024 PDSA Paw report has gathered some really interesting stats.

Studies like this really shine a light on how far we still have to go in the battle to educate rabbit owners in the UK.

42% of rabbits live alone, and the majority of rabbits are not rehomed from a reputable rescue. 😭

All imagery and statistics in this post are from: https://www.pdsa.org.uk/what-we-do/pdsa-animal-wellbeing-report

When the weather gets really hot, you may be tempted to introduce frozen treats and ice cubes to your bunny's diet, but we would strongly advise against it!
Ice can play havoc with a rabbit's digestive system and lead to gastrointestinal problems and stasis.

If your bunnies only have a bottle as their water source, offer a water bowl as well, so that they can get a better drink.
With a bowl, they will drink faster and more efficiently, and the cool water will help to cool them down.
Don’t chill the water or add ice cubes to it, but make sure it’s not boiling in the sun.

If you're unsure, it's always best NOT to change your bunny's diet depending on the seasons. As long as they have a healthy diet with unlimited access to hay, keep it as consistent as possible so those delicate tummies don't get upset!

What does it mean to foster for The Littlest Lives Rescue? 💚🐰

You may have seen our regular posts calling for much needed bunny fosterers, and we understand that there are many things to consider when you're thinking of taking on a new challenge like fostering...

So we've put together this post which will hopefully answer some of your questions:

Fostering for The Littlest Lives Rescue involves caring for a bunny or bunnies as if they were your own, without the financial burden of vets fees.
Our team of fosterers are a diverse group of individuals with varying backgrounds, interests and skills.
We are always keen to welcome new fosterers into the group.
We have a group chat where engagement can be as minimal as simply sending updates or questions about the bunnies in your care, or as involved as having a good laugh and meeting up for group socials – there’s something for everyone.
We all endeavor to help each other out, and there's almost always someone willing to help with things like holiday cover.

Fosterers are asked to provide a safe space for the bunnies taken in to their care (following the RWAF guidelines), take them to necessary vet appointments, and provide them with food/bedding/enrichment. Some of our fosterers buy fresh bales of hay at £5, grow their own herbs or bunny safe weeds and make enrichment from empty toilet rolls stuffed with hay which minimizes daily costs.
Vet fees and treatments are covered and paid directly by the rescue, leaving fosterers free to enjoy their bunny friends without financial worries.

The end aim is to find forever homes for our foster bunnies. The average amount of time a bunny spends in our care is 5 months, but it can vary between bunnies depending on their needs.
Some are with us for only weeks, and some will move out of their foster homes and stay with us forever as sanctuary bunnies.
One of our foster pairs have been looking for their forever home for 3 years.

If you’d like to know more about fostering for The Littlest Lives Rescue, please get in touch for more information – with no obligation if you decide fostering isn’t for you.

Our Story

The Littlest Lives Rescue, formally known as the Littlest Rescue was taken over by Brittany Roberts in 2020. The Littlest Rescue was founded by Bev Taylor in 2006 where she held the main centre in her garden. Bev and the rescue have helped thousands of animals over the years and will continue to do the same for many years to come. When Bev decided to retire in 2019 Brittany, who had her own small rescue, offered to take over.

The centre has now been relocated in North Bristol, where we plan to not only help rescue rabbits but offer boarding and bonding to help create funds to keep up the work that we do. We are a rescue that widely depends on the amazing volunteers we have. This includes fostering, cleaning out, admin and fundraising. Without the goodwill of our volunteers we just couldn’t do what we do.
