WALK AND TRAINS ARE BACK!
What is a Walk and Train?
When a dog trainer takes your dog on a walk and uses the time to train your dog. This can be to work on behavioural issues or just training issues.
A lot of owners give up on the training as they don’t see results or don’t understand the training. This means they can go through multiple trainers and feel defeated at the end.
I can walk your dog work on getting solid basics and hand over the rest of the training to you or finish the training for you.
My clients also struggle finding dogs to work on, don’t worry I will bring dogs with me to help your dog progress. We will not spend weeks in a secure field but get out in the real world and provide your dogs with skills you need for everyday life.
In our walk and train we are happy to work on any obedience and reactivity towards dogs, traffic, bikes etc. We are only able to walk human reactive dogs if the dog would accept us. Otherwise it will be too stressful for them.

How to get better engagement on walks? Simple more training outside, stop just training at home. Guess what your dog will train with you at home but ignore you on walks. Train in the environments you want their attention! My favourite interactive play! It builds a bond, the dog’s confidence is an outlet for their breed specific needs. Yes even pet dogs want to chase and play! By buying a dog they are your pet but they don’t owe you a great relationship. That relationship like any needs to be worked on. If your dog only plays with other dogs, that’s what they will do and ignore you on walks. Pull towards them and get annoyed when you stop them from getting to them. Carlos is my mums dog while she’s been away I have had him. First few weeks, he didn’t listen to me or cared much I was there. Now he comes and seeks me out and remind me is training time, he’s engagement on walks has also been amazing. He’s been recalling off cats!! 🐈⬛ still on lead of course, before that was so hard for him. Play and train with your dog and trust after a month you will see a huge change. If you keep it up for 3 and then for life, your dogs recall and engagement with me 10 times better. In the video Pat is playing with Monty to build his confidence and build a bond as we just started training him. #dogsofinstagram #doglover #dogs #puppy #dogstagram #dogoftheday #doglife #doglovers #puppylove #instadog #dogphotography #puppiesofinstagram #dogmom #dogsofinsta #dogslife #happydog #germanshepherd #doglove #bordercolliesofinstagram #doggrooming #dogmodel #doginstagram #malinois #dogsofig #dogtrainer #dogwalker #doggie #dogofinstagram #gsd #dogwalking
At first start with a 10s tug session, be aware as well how long it takes your to bring their arousal back down. 1. Say ‘playtime’ to let the dog know it is time to play (feel free to pick a word that means play time but is a different one for one I used as an example)2. Play with the dog and work on a conflict free drop (you can ask for a drop when they do mark yes and start tugging again, this way drop doesn’t mean end of play just give up the toy). To teach say ‘drop’ and throw some treats to the left or right of your dogs head then reach over for the toy. If they comes back from the toy just throw more treats to the side. Add near misses with a toy, when they runs at it pull it away next time she/he runs at it let him/her grab it, when she/he really tugs on the toy let him/her have the toy. If you attach a long line to the toy you can also grab the ling and while she/he holds the toy prance the toy with him/her, by running in a large circle. 3. Once you finish tugging, pop the toy away. Walk round in circles to bring back the dog and wait for any check-ins and reward them (with treats). Have your dog on lead and walk with them in larger circles until they are relaxed. Over time we want to move to loose lead walking so any time you do ask for a heel he/she will naturally relax. He will associate loose lead walking with being calm. 4. Say ‘finished’ - to let the dog know the game is finished. Do not use it until you are finished and you will stop tug and the toy will go away. (again you can use a different word). Please once you say a finished cue not feed your dog any treat or do a scatter. As food can stimulate arousal again and for many working dogs they will switch back into work mode. You can repeat step 1 - 3 as many times as you wish but ‘all done’ can only be used once. Once it is used all toys and food are popped away. I wanted to share Obi’s progress and expand on what you need to help your frustrated dog. 1. Play - as an opportunity to be crazy. Good old tug with your dog on walks 2. Settling - on walks, is not always go and play time. 3. Loose Lead Walking - lead skills are important so they are not at the end of the lead pulling and lunging at dogs4. Clarity - show them exactly what you want from them around other dogs. Obi exploded intensely at a sight of any dog. Now has a whole session around another dog without saying hello. This method works for all dogs not just one. This was his 4th session his 5th one we are heading to the park!! #dogtraining #dogsofinstagram #dog #dogs #dogtrainer #k #puppy #dogstagram #doglife #doglover #dogoftheday #doglovers #puppytraining #training #instadog #workingdog #puppylove #dogtrainingtips #dogsofinsta #puppiesofinstagram #dogphotography #germanshepherd #happydog #doggo #dogslife #obediencetraining #puppies #instagram #love #gsd
