Thinking of taking your cat, dog, or ferret abroad to an EU country?
Here is what you need to know...
- Please let us know a minimum of 1 month before you plan to travel so we can make sure everything is ready for your trip! The more notice the better!
- Your pet must be microchipped and registered with up-to-date details.
- Does your pet have a valid passport? From January 2021 UK pet passports are no longer valid, but passports issued by other countries may still be valid.
- If your pet does not have a valid passport, they will need to be issued an Animal Health Certificate. The Animal Health Certificate must be issued within 10 days of travelling, and you must book an appointment to see an 'Official Veterinarian' for this. We have several vets with this qualification, and reception will make sure you are booked in with the correct member of staff.
- All animals travelling must be up-to-date with their rabies vaccination, and this can be done anytime but must be done a minimum of three weeks before your Animal Health Certificate appointment.
- Always check the government website for current guidance on travel for the country you are going to. Some countries may have additional requirements (e.g. a tapeworm treatment), and it is your responsibility to check for these requirements.
This advice is for travel from the UK to EU countries only, for further travel advice and any additional questions, please ring the practice on 0117 924 7832.

Fledgling birds are often mistaken to be injured or unwell. These birds have come down from their nests, but do not have the ability to fly up to safety. They can be seen fluttering around, but they remain on the ground. This is a normal stage of development for birds. It is likely not far from it's nest, and you should try and observe to see if the parents are nearby. If you see an adult bird feeding the fledgling, than no intervention is needed.

If you find a fledgling that is obviously injured or ill or has not been fed by a parent for two hours, give us a call and we can check over the baby bird, and arrange further care if needed.

We are very proud of our team, and consistently work hard to improve our skills and maintain our high standards of care.

Should you use sunscreen on your cat?
It is recommended to use a pet-safe sunscreen on the tips of your cats ears and nose, as well as any other areas that have thin fur coverage. This is particularly important in cats with white fur. The best way to keep your cat safe from the sun is to keep them inside during the hottest periods of the day.
This article on icatcare explains in more detail how you can safely use sunscreen on your cat to keep them safe during the summer months:

We regularly get feedback on our lack of parking, which we completely understand.

If you are struggling to park, you are welcome to pull up outside the practice and drop off your pets to us in the waiting room before you park. Alternatively, if you give us a call from your car when you arrive, an available member of staff would be happy to come out to you and assist you in bringing your pet in to the practice. We hope this helps ease the ongoing parking issue.

Being microchipped will be a legal requirement in England for cats from Monday 10 June 2024. Making sure your cat’s microchip is up to date is important because if they did go missing, it could make the difference in being reunited with them.

Give us a call to book your cat in for an appointment for microchipping and don’t forget, a microchip is included when you join The Healthy Pet Club, find out more at vetcollection.co.uk/health-plans-and-products/healthy-pet-club
