We require an additional Approved TB Tester to join and assist our Veterinary team. We are looking for somebody who enjoys working with cattle and in the outdoors. No Veterinary qualifications are required. All training and equipment will be provided. All you need to bring is a willingness to become part of our great team. ‼️🪱 HAEMONCHUS 🪱‼️

Haemonchus contortus, or more commonly known as Barber’s pole worm, is a blood- sucking gut worm that can affect sheep (adults and lambs), goats and camelids. Unfortunately haemonchus can be particularly dangerous due to their ability to ingest significant amounts of blood and a rapid population growth, resulting in a rapid anaemia and risk of death.

Some of the signs to look out for include:
- sudden deaths
-sudden onset anaemia (pale eye and gum membranes)
- lethargy and general weakness
- Bottle jaw

- acts slightly different to other worm as it generally does not result in diarrhoea

In recent weeks we have seen an increasing number of Haemonchus on farm. We are now excited to announce that we are able to offer in house identification of Haemonchus from faecal samples.

With ram sales now upon us, we should be mindful of checking our stock tups for fertility. We will be hosting two Tup Testing days at the practice where we will be giving the rams a full health check and semen analysis. The importance of a fertile tup can’t be stressed enough in order to achieve a tight lambing block. The test will be priced at £30 per tup, and a result to be given on the day.

The farm safety foundation is a small independent charity striving to address the attitudes and behaviours to farm safety and poor mental health accross the UK.
