Spencer was so excited to see my sister on this walk, so we did some work to teach him to be relaxed walking by her. He was allowed to go up for a fuss when she invited him and only as long as his paws were all on the floor. When a dog walks neutrally and maintains a loose lead, it reflects a state of calm and confidence. THRESHOLDSThresholds are one of the most important things you can teach your dogs. They can’t run out the door, the car or through any gate without my say so. This is for their own safety. It teaches them impulse control and keeps them safe. Here is why I encourage teaching thresholds as a dog walker:🚪Teach your dog what a threshold is. Is it a doorway, a crate door, a gate, the stairs, the boot of your car? Set your boundaries and clearly identify what it is you’re teaching your dog. 🦮Use a lead to help teach your dog. Set them up for success by not allowing them to make the wrong decision to rush through a threshold. 🗓️Be consistent! Don’t confuse your dog by having certain rules sometimes. 🌳Once your dog learns inside the house, start teaching in new places. Generalise the command.👌🏼Use a release command such as ‘okay’ or ‘break’.😌Be patient!
