Measuring day for my tortoises - this is how I measure most of my smaller tortoises.. 📏🤓🐢 With so many tortoises it's quicker for me to measure this way, rather than using the measuring device I used to. You can easily make one of these out of wood and stick a tape measure to it. I seal it with sticky back plastic film so it can be disinfected, between the tortoise breeds to prevent cross-contamination. This is BB, she is such a gentle and lovely natured leopard tortoise.. and loves a chin tickle! She weighs in at 8.3kg and is currently my heaviest tortoise.. No need to go to the gym with lifting this beautiful girl!! 😂😍🐢

In the wild, parent tortoises have nothing to do with their young and they have to fend for themselves from the moment they hatch.
I keep the adults separate from the baby tortoises so this was the first time that the parents and offsring had met each other.. they weren't that bothered and were more interested in finding the quickest escape from being photographed!!

Astro and Zaza (my gorgeous radiated tortoises) have grown so much - now they need their own separate bath tubs!

Zola should be hibernating but little miss wasn't behaving as she should in her wind-down, so I had to stop the preparations for hibernation this year.. turns out all the fuss was she had one tiny egg she needed to lay! This is by far the smallest egg I've ever seen, perfectly formed but only measuring about 10 cm!!. This egg won't be viable. Zola is well and happy and will be hibernated as normal next year 🐢🥚🤗

Twinkle the Indian star tortoise and one of her 5-day old babies... so adorable! 😍🐢 Parent tortoises have nothing to do with their young, so the little ones need to fight for survival as soon as they hatch. I keep the parents and babies in separate enclosures so they don't get trampled, plus they're easier find when I'm doing their health checks or bathing them

Dinky baby tortoise 😍😍🐢. This little one is smaller than usual for Tallulah's babies - weighing in at just 11g! Most of the other babies from the same clutch weighed 25-27g, with one or two babies weighing 12g-14g.

This little indian star tortoise found the next best thing to .. a fluffy dandelion seed head! I'm not sure the sleeping-beauty-stepping-stone appreciated his eagerness to show the others!

Mum, Dad and baby greek tortoises - I bath my adults once a week and the babies are bathed every other day to keep them nicely hydrated. When bathing tortoises, I use a tub that is opaque and has high enough sides so they don't climb out.
