‼️ Closed For 2026 ‼️ - October Update - It’s been a quiet month here at Henbrook HQ as we say goodbye to our last few rescues of 2026 🤎🦔

With a little help from our wonderful friends, this little rescue has helped 84 precious prickles throughout 2026!

What a challenging year it’s been, with heatwaves, droughts, limited capacity and an unprecedented influx of orphaned hoglets… all while the head servant has been busy growing a precious human!

I can confirm she’s still successfully waddling, but that mythical pregnancy glow remains nowhere to be seen! So maternity leave was most definitely needed🤰🏻

We might be a small rescue, but we’re incredibly proud to have helped those 84 little lives. And we couldn’t have done it without you.

From the bottom of our hearts, a million thank yous to everyone who has helped us help our precious prickles heal, thrive and return to the wild.

- ‼️ Closed For 2026 - A Very Special Thank You - Happy 70th Birthday Alyson 🥳

Earlier this month, Alyson celebrated a very special milestone birthday. Rather than receiving gifts, she so very generously asked her friends and family to make donations to Henbrook Hedgehog Rescue.

We honestly can’t thank Alyson enough for such a thoughtful and incredibly kind gesture. To choose to support our little rescue on such a special occasion means more to us than words can say.

Alyson, your generosity will make a real difference to the precious prickles who need us, helping us provide the care, medication and treatment they deserve when we reopen after maternity leave.

- ‼️ Closed For 2026 ‼️ - Inspector Gus - October Annual Leave Gone Wrong! 😾

Even when I’m officially off duty from my inspection duties at Henbrook Hedgehog Rescue, I somehow still manage to find myself in a right prickle! 🙄

Earlier this month, I had quite the traumatic adventure. Yours truly managed to get himself stuck at our local scrap yard and was MIA for THREE WHOLE DAYS!

Thankfully, after what felt like an eternity, my humans finally tracked me down. Although I was far too petrified to come out of hiding, I made sure I kept calling for my parents to come and rescue me 🥺

Unfortunately, when Daddy finally came to save me, I was so frightened that I accidentally gave him an open fracture to his finger and a few extra scratches for good measure 😬🩹

Now, whilst I accept some responsibility for my questionable life choices, I would like to formally point the paw at one particular suspect… Junior Rusty! 🐈‍⬛

I strongly suspect that his poor supervision and questionable mentoring skills led me straight back to the very place we were originally rescued from — the infamous RAT PIT SCRAP YARD! 😾

Honestly, you cannot trust the junior staff with anything these days. No supervision, no safeguarding, and clearly no understanding of basic risk assessments. I shall be adding this incident to Rusty’s already lengthy disciplinary file. 📋

LESSON LEARNED: NEVER leave the cul-de-sac! 🚫🏡

From now on, I shall be conducting my annual leave from the safety of my own garden, where the greatest danger is having to share my home with Junior Rusty and his questionable management skills.

As for Daddy, I suppose I owe him a little apology… although I maintain that the finger incident was entirely the fault of poor health and safety notices at the scrap yard!

- ‼️ Closed For 2026 ‼️ — Meet Dandelion 🌼

Oh, Dandelion… you really have been keeping your servants on their toes!

This little lady arrived weighing just 251g and was extremely restless. Something clearly wasn’t right, but Dandelion wasn’t exactly interested in making our detective work easy!

For weeks, we’ve been scratching our heads, running samples and trying to work out exactly what was bothering this troublesome little patient.

Eventually, after multiple samples, she finally gave us the answer we were looking for — internal parasite fluke. 🪱

Sometimes these prickly patients can make us work hard to figure out what’s going on, but the stubborn servant refuses to give up until she gets to the bottom of it!

Now she is making fantastic progress! She’s even graduated to her outdoor hutch and is now weighing a very impressive 616g!

If she continues on this path, she’ll soon be heading back to her finders for her second chance at life in the wild.

From a tiny, restless little mystery to a chunky 616g troublemaker… Dandy, you’ve certainly kept us busy!

- ‼️ Closed For 2026 ‼️ - Ms Moss - During her daily clean-out, Ms Moss had a rather special visitor! 🥰

The head servant was absolutely delighted — and extremely flattered — to be interviewed for the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust’s upcoming podcast. 🎙️🤎

It was such a lovely opportunity to chat about hedgehogs, wildlife rescue and the work that goes on behind the scenes here at Henbrook HQ.

Of course, Ms Moss was far more interested in her breakfast than the interview… priorities!

We can’t wait to share more with you when the podcast is released! 🤎🦔

- ‼️Closed For 2026 ‼️ - Our last few prickles of 2026 - The beautiful Ariel getting her last weight checked. She’s been spoilt with our friends at the super enriching soft release site 🥰

We may be closed to new admissions for the remainder of 2026, but there are still a few precious prickles at Henbrook HQ receiving ongoing care, treatment and rehabilitation.

Here’s a little insight into where your support has gone at Henbrook Hedgehog Rescue during September.

Every little prickly patient that arrives at Henbrook deserves the very best chance at recovery. - ‼️ Closed For 2026 ‼️ - INSPECTOR GUS — FINAL INSPECTION OF 2026 🐈‍⬛

And this month is a little different… Because apparently, the human servant has finally been forced into maternity leave🤰🏻

Naturally, I couldn’t possibly allow her to disappear into her waddling, nesting and “I really should be resting” era without conducting one FINAL inspection of the rescue. Someone has to make sure standards are maintained while she’s off having a baby! 😼

I’m pleased to report that:

✔️ All surfaces are spotless
✔️ Hygiene standards remain suspiciously acceptable
✔️ The prickles are being properly cared for
✔️ The snack department is fully operational
✔️ And my personal biscuit supply remains… completely inadequate. 😾

As for Rusty…

Well. He continues to demonstrate an impressive ability to be absolutely nowhere near where he’s supposed to be!

I have therefore decided that, during the servant’s maternity leave, Rusty will be placed in charge of absolutely nothing. A wise management decision, if I do say so myself. 😌

For now, Henbrook HQ is officially entering its maternity-leave era, and this is my final inspection report of 2026.

It has been a very busy year of prickles, chaos, emergency snacks, questionable working hours and servants who clearly need better supervision.

FINAL 2026 INSPECTION RESULTS:

🍗 Snack department: Needs improvement
🐈 Rusty’s productivity: Non-existent
