๐นโฅ๏ธ Happy Valentines Day ๐นโฅ๏ธ
To all our pet patients from everyone at Bruton Vets ๐พ
๐๐ All of us here at Bruton Vets would like to wish all our clients a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year! ๐๐
Yesterday we had the little Ernie in for castration. It is very important with small animals that they are continually fed before and after surgery to prevent gut stasis. This is Ernie a few hours post surgery tucking into a piece of celery! We wish Ernie a speedy recovery!
Yesterday we had a very unusual patient brought into us after being discovered inside a ladyโs house. After investigations to identify what kind of snake he was (a grass snake), our vet Charlotte performed some delicate surgery to remove debris that was stuck to the little guy, causing him not to be able to open his mouth correctly. This was successful and later that afternoon the little guy was collected by Secret World Wildlife Rescue to continue his care before being released back into the wild.

That moment when you come closer and closer to your dog and he or she immediately goes into โbelly rub modeโ!

As Winter fully settles in, we would like to remind all our community that antifreeze and water coolant in engines contain a large portion of ethylene glycol!
This chemical compound can be very dangerous, even in small quantities, and both cats and dogs can contact it frequently. It will bind with calcium in the blood stream and form large crystals that will affect kidneys and result in acute renal failure.
As it tastes sweet, some pets might seek out containers or drink spills from engines. Grooming after stepping on this substance is also a way to ingest it, especially for cats.
Clean spills as soon as you see them and keep all containers with antifreeze well way from your petsโ (and childrenโs!) reach. If you see disorientation, vomiting, lethargy and seizures and you suspect they might have come in contact with ethylene glycol, bring them in immediately!
Antidotes need to be administered as soon as possible to avoid further damage.
We have had some great photos entered into our Christmas Photo Competition :)
