It was lovely to be able to get most of the Lovelwood Farm team in the picture at the Bucks County Show. Well done Swan and Charlie Boy!

Success for Lovelwood Charlie Boy at the ever fabulous Bucks County Show! A big thank you to the show's organizing team, judges and marshals.

Moo, Coolio and young Max giving the grass some serious attention! We’ve been fortunate to be able to rest paddocks over the summer so we still have plenty of good autumn grazing.

These two gorgeous chestnut geldings - one a former international racehorse and the other an extrovert dressage diva – have quickly become the best of friends. Hardly ever more than a tail swish away, they’re now setting new standards in synchronized grazing.

One of our superstar horses turned 32 this month - Happy Birthday Alfi! He was born in 1990, when Nelson Mandela was released from prison, Germany was reunified and mobile phones were still the size of a brick. Presumably these passed Alfi unawares, but I’d guess that his yard rocked to Top Gun’s Take My Breath Away, Sinead’s Nothing Compares 2 U and Love Shack. Fittingly, Alannah Myles also belted out Black Velvet, no doubt giving Alfi an early taste of big hair and shoulder pads.

He’s on great form, continuing to flirt with the girls and inseparable from his best buddy, Gatsby. Through Alfi’s current owner, Teresa Threadgold, who’s cared for him so well, we’re able to share some lovely pictures right back to when he was a day old foal.

We all love you Alfi!

We’ve had a lovely crop of hay again this year - baled with “sunshine in the bale” as farmers say around here. It’s now all stored ready for winter, which we all hope is months away, and finishes a lot earlier than it did this year!

A snooze in the sun for some of the gorgeous horses that we care for at Lovelwood Farm Retirement Livery. Alfi is 31 but still likes to stand watch for the mares. We've opened up two new places on the yard if you're considering retiring a much loved friend.

It’s great to see Alfi, Winter and the yearling, Cygnet, forming such a close good bond. Alfi is our 31-year-old elder statesman. With the younger musketeers being a bit boisterous at times, Alfi has moved in with the mares and proved himself to be something of a silver fox!

Bang on time! Our wonderful postie delivered semen from Kippure Lancelot from Barrowby Connemaras in Yorkshire earlier this morning.

We’ll soon have room for a couple more older residents later in the summer as we grow the number of retirement liveries we can care for. If you’re thinking about retirement livery, we’d love to have a chat.

It’s a family effort - we took a good crop of hay last year, and there’s another good crop on the way now we’ve had a bit of rain

Spring in her feet

Spring in her feet. Literally! Nettie back in the sun

We’ll have room for a couple more older residents later in the summer, if you know of anyone who might be thinking about retirement livery at some point. We’re small, friendly and vet managed.

Foal’s first time in the rain

Nettie out in the rain this morning. So far she’s only ever seen bright, sunny days so the rain was quite a shock. Her mum didn’t look too chuffed either!

25/04/2020

Full of the joys of spring! Nettie this morning having been stabled overnight. Quite a buck and kick!

Retirement liveries and foaling update

We will have room for 3 new retirement horses in our small, vet-managed facility from mid-summer once the lockdown is lifted. Although visits are not possible at the moment, please do call us or pm, if you’d like to chat things through with us over the phone.

Meanwhile, our latest arrival is Nettie, a foal from our 14hh Connie, from a great show jumping stallion in Yorkshire. Incidentally, Sir Lancelot arrived via straws in the post and Juliet used AI to cover the mare. It looks to be a great combination so far!

We’ll keep posting videos as she progresses... there’s a lovely one in an earlier post
